The Department of Theater, Dance, and Arts Management at Long Island University - Post Campus is currently accepting work-study for employment positions in the Theater Building. Eligible and hired work-study students will work in one of the three areas below to assist with the Post Theater Company's 2023-24 season. Please note any areas of interest and relevant experience when applying.

BOX OFFICE STAFF

Under the supervision of the General Manager and Box Office Manager, employees will staff the Post Theater Company Box Office during daily operating hours, typically 9:30am-5pm M-F, as well as performances throughout the semester. Theater students preferred.

Responsibilities include:

  • Taking and monitoring ticket reservations for performances.

  • Maintaining box office paperwork all current reservation and financial records.

  • Assistance in the maintenance of concession stock and sales.

  • Answering Box Office phone and returning messages as necessary.

  • Assist with lobby display creation and security.

  • Maintaining cleanliness of box office and lobby.

If serving as House Management Staff on performance days you are required to:

  • Arrive no later than 60 minutes prior to curtain.

  • Follow the rules and procedures of the box office, as designated by the General Manager and Box Office Manager.

  • Perform the typical duties of house management, including assistance with ushering, ticket scanning, and concessions.

  • Prepare the house for opening and admit patrons when given the clear from Stage Management.

  • Carry out intermission and closing procedures as established with the GM, Stage Manager, and Box Office Manager.

  • Work with Stage Management to establish starting times, intermission lengths, and any special house needs, including a latecomer seating policy for each production.

  • Keep records of attendance as required, complete necessary reports, and maintain files.

  • Be familiar with emergency requirements and consider the general safety and comfort of patrons.

  • Report any safety, facility or patron needs to the GM or Company Manager.

  • This position requires evening and weekend availability.

THEATER PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

Under the supervision of the Technical Director and General Manager, Production Assistants

support the creation of Post Theater Company productions. Depending upon experience and area of interest, opportunities exist for learning basic skills in:

  • Scenic construction/installation

  • Lighting

  • Painting

  • Prop building

  • Execution of various administrative tasks.

  • General maintenance of the Theater Main Stage and Lab Theater.

Instruction in the use of tools, equipment and construction techniques will be provided. Work hours may include late nights and weekends, when available, and generally for the period of two weeks prior to opening. Theater students preferred.

COSTUME SHOP ASSISTANT

Under the supervision of the Costume Shop Supervisor, Costume Designer and/or designated Costume assistants, you will be responsible for assisting the Costume Department in the pulling, construction, maintenance, and strike of costumes for assigned productions. Additionally, there will be ongoing maintenance and organization of the shop and greater costume collection. Instruction in basic sewing skills, operation of machines, shop layout and policies, etc., will be provided. This position sometimes requires evening and weekend availability. Theater students preferred.

  • Must demonstrate interest for a work-study position and financial need in accordance with Department of Education guidelines.
