Position Description

Student employment is an important source of financial aid. It is part-time, temporary employment which is contingent on continued eligibility.

Opportunities are available at all campus sites year-round. Available hours are dependent on students' eligibility and department needs. Approved students work an average of 10 - 15 hours per week and are paid $15.00 per hour.

Students are paid biweekly. Funds are sent directly to the student and are not subtracted from any balance due to SPC.

Applicants must be enrolled as a current SPC student to apply and be eligable for Federal Work Study. All applicants must also fill out a FAFSA in order to qualify for financial need.

Position Description

FWS - SPG Garden Science (NS Dept.)

Position Title: Federal Work Study (FWS) Garden Assistant

• Natural Science, SPG

Position Salary Rate: $15.00/hr.

Position Summary: The Natural Science Department is looking for a student assistant to help maintain the garden on the SPC Gibbs Campus. Garden student assistants also aid in keeping the supplies stocked, clean, and organized.

Educational Requirements: Current degree seeking students to maintain six credit hours in your current program. Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0.

Experience Requirements: Must have a love of gardening and the outdoors.

Potential employees should have a general gardening knowledge, be dependable and able to work independently and safely after training. Previous class experience in a biological or environmental science class is a plus. The applicant must be at least 18 years old.

Desired Work Schedule: Flexible; Monday

• Friday, 8:30am

• 4:00pm. 10 hours per week.

General Responsibilities: Responsibilities may include setting up, weeding, planting, digging, watering, etc. the garden on the Gibbs Campus. Specific responsibilities will be designed around the garden's needs.

Skills: Garden knowledge, good organization, and good communication skills preferred.

Physical Requirements: Working in the garden will require working outside in the sun, standing or walking on your feet for extended periods of time, and possible exposure to insects.
