SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Florida Department of Corrections Admissions and Release is recruiting applicants for a Correctional Service Assistant Consultant position. This is an 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. position with a 40-hour work week.

  • This is an opportunity for a self-motivated, dependable individual. Incumbent MUST have a minimum of 5 years' experience in Classification, Sentence Structure or Releases. This position is responsible for the placement and withdrawal of all detainer notifications and ensuring they are forwarded to the appropriate law enforcement agencies, independently track all detainers, review and research sentencing data to ensure active detainers are valid, correspond with law enforcement agencies regarding the status of outstanding warrants and canceled detainers. Duties will also include, but are not limited to, responding to telephonic or written inquiries pertaining to warrants/detainers, contacting state attorneys, law enforcement agencies and federal agents regarding discrepancies in warrant documents and serving as back up to the detainer pickup coordinator.

  • This position works under the direction of the Correctional Program Administrator, Release Management Detainer Unit. The incumbent is responsible for assisting with the preparation of reports, project tracking systems, policies/procedures, planning activities, training presentations, and data/file management systems for inmate transition and release.

  • Responsible for monitoring, assessing, recommending, and implementing solutions to resolve issues that ensure inmate commitments have been satisfied as ordered by the courts and authorizing the final approval for release of inmates.

  • Responsible for assisting the Correctional Program Administrator with the monitoring and coordination of the Executive Office of Immigration Review the scheduling of Exclusion or Deportation Hearings for foreign born inmates who have been declared criminal aliens. Also assists with the determination of criminal alien inmate immigration status.

  • Assists with the development of policies/procedures, reports, contracts, and proposals for transition services and release management issues. Research necessary background information and prepares appropriate documentation.

  • Responds telephonically and in writing to inquiries from law enforcement, inmate families and the department field staff regarding detainers, and other pertinent information regarding release issues.

  • When needed assists in the review/ research of offender data to make determinations to place, cancel or withdraw active warrants requested by law enforcement agencies. Also, assists with the coordination of pickup arrangements of inmates being released from custody to various law enforcement agencies who have detainers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • MINIMUM of 5 years' experience in Classification, Sentence Structure or Releases

  • Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years of corrections/classification experience

  • Must be currently employed with the Florida Department of Corrections.

  • Knowledge of detainers

  • Must be professional and reliable with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

  • Knowledge of corrections principles, practices and the criminal justice system and effective verbal and written communication

  • Ability to understand, apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, and follow oral and written instructions, rules, and statutory guidelines.

  • Ability to review and interpret NCIC/FCIC reports.

  • Knowledge of the functions of OBIS/CDC
