This position supervises, coordinates, and supports the restaurant and bar teams to maintain exceptionally high levels and volumes of service. Primary responsibilities include supervising and directing the work of service staff, training and coaching staff on prompt and courteous service while developing an effective flow of guests through the Dining Room & Bar achieving maximum densities in seating whenever possible. Additional responsibilities include positive guest recognition and relations; greeting and seating guests; anticipating guests needs; monitoring the flow of the restaurant including table turnover, guest arrival, guest departure and pace of the restaurant; and assisting service staff when necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides positive guest recognition and relations through personal performance and attention to guest history, including familiarizing him or herself with regular patrons and VIP guests.

  • Monitors the guests dining experience and the flow of the restaurant including table turnover, guest arrival, guest departure and pace of the restaurant.

  • Ensures prompt and courteous service while developing an effective flow of guests through the dining room and bar; including but not limited to planning seating strategies to maximize seating densities, expediting service, overseeing the flow of orders, maintaining a presence on the floor, visiting with guests, and establishing guest relationships.

  • Ensures restaurant and bar staff provide quality beverages and food products consistently by adhering to all recipe standards.

  • Oversees set up and closing duties.

  • Ensures the cleanliness and organization of designated work areas; stocks and maintains supplies, refrigerators, dispensers, and/or display cases throughout the shift ensuring no interruption in guest service. Notifies management when inventory supplies are low.

  • Assists in maintaining the point of sale database and managing all point of sale related issues, including but not limited to programming new menu items, creating keypads, troubleshooting printer issues etc.

  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and national regulations pertaining to food quality, cleanliness and sanitation standards, alcohol service, personnel, and safety.

  • Ensures implementation and adherence to cash handling and alcohol service policies through training and support

  • Complies with the organizations sustainability standards (when applicable).

  • Exercises reasonable care, performs required maintenance, and ensures operating instructions, safety standards, and guidelines are followed for equipment and facility assets.

  • Completes all other duties as assigned.

Supervisory and Administrative Functions:

  • Trains and monitors performance of restaurant and bar staff. Provides organization, instruction, guidance and communication. Supervises the daily work of other front of the house staff in the absence of more senior leadership in the restaurant.

  • Assists with new employee training by positively reinforcing successful performance and providing respectful and encouraging instruction.

  • Assists management in completing administrative duties needed to perform job functions as required (e.g., staff schedule, work orders, etc.).

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • At least two (2) years related experience in a high-volume, high energy, food and beverage environment.

  • Availability to work nights and weekends as needed.

  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Competency in Point of Sale systems, working knowledge of office software and reservation systems.

  • Working knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations related to food, safety, sanitation, alcohol service, and employment.

  • Ability to make decisions and work independently, as well as with a team.

  • Sound judgment, tact, and ability to make independent decisions regarding planning, organizing, and problem solving.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, walk, squat, and reach. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Alcohol service certification or ability to achieve in 30 days.

  • Food safety certified or ability to achieve in 30 days.

  • Excellent organizational skills, strong ethics, and honest behavior, ability to follow guidelines, structure, and established policies.
