The Fashion Department of City College of San Francisco is dedicated to teaching the requisite skills needed for success in all aspects of the fashion industry. The curricula provide specialized programs and training geared toward career advancement and employment in fashion merchandising, fashion design, fashion styling, personal styling, and textiles. Opportunities for experiential learning are offered through internships, guest lectures, industry-sponsored projects, and field trips.

Students are taught by a faculty with outstanding academic and industry experience who understand the specific needs of this ever-changing, fast-paced industry. The urban setting of the Fashion Department coupled with its state-of-the-art equipment gives our students the competitive edge they need to succeed.

Job Duties

1.Instruct students in one or more of the following areas:

  • Patternmaking & Grading

  • Fashion Styling & Personal Styling

  • Fashion Writing

  • Apparel Construction & Draping

  • Visual Merchandising

  • Fashion Forecasting

  • Computerized Pattern Development

  • PAD & Gerber
  • Fashion Illustration

  • Digital Fashion Illustration

  • Fashion Retail Buying & Merchandising

  • Sustainability

  • Clo3D

  • Fashion & AI

  • Fashion Social Media & Marketing

2.Perform duties associated with instruction and assessing student progress, which includes, but are not limited to, grading, required recordkeeping, etc.

3.Participate in departmental and college functions, such as committee work, staff meetings, curriculum development, program review, development and assessment of student learning outcomes, participatory governance, faculty evaluations, and others.

4.Teach in -person day, evening, Saturday, and Sunday classes at any of the College's campuses as required.

5.Supports and engages in an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive and anti-racist practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps.

6.Participates in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism to center pedagogy.

7.Perform other related duties as assigned by the department chair.

Minimum Qualifications

1.Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds (Required).

2.Earned Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent foreign degree, plus two years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's assignment; OR THE EQUIVALENT;

OR

Earned Associate Degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent foreign degree, plus six years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's assignment; OR THE EQUIVALENT;

OR

Hold a fully-satisfied LIFE California Community College Instructor Credential in Consumer and Family Education (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990).

Desirable Qualifications

1.Earned degree in Fashion from an accredited institution.

2.Minimum of two (2) to six (6) years of recent work experience in fashion (see #1 under Examples of Duties for a list of areas).

3.Demonstrated knowledge of the current fashion industry.

4.Demonstrated ability to use computer hardware and illustrator software where applicable.

5.Demonstrated ability to use Canvas online learning system.

6.Evidence of successful instructional experience at the university or college level using culturally responsive pedagogy.

7.Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of inequities in higher education and a commitment to rectifying policies and processes that restrict access for historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted students.
