Develop and deliver educational programs, technical assistance, and applied research to increase the engagement of commercial vegetable and berry growers in state, federal, non-profit, and other programs that provide funding for the adoption of best farming practices. Work with public and private agencies and organizations and University personnel to prepare and distribute information on programs that fund practices that enhance the economic, environmental, and social wellbeing of farms.

Growers are made aware of and engaged with these programs through individual consultations, educational events, publications, social media, and web sites. Quantitative and qualitative data about grower participation and perceptions is collected and analyzed, generating new knowledge and recommendations about funding practices and procedures that successfully engage growers. Programs with potential for greater farmer engagement include those offered by University of Vermont Extension, USDA's Farm Service Agency and Natural Resources and Conservation Service, the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets, and the Vermont Vegetable and Berry Growers Association.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Bachelor's degree preferred in a field directly related to agriculture. and four years of experience working in applied agricultural education, extension, and/or outreach. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be accepted.

Experience with project management and reporting. Experience using spreadsheets, word processing.

Desirable Qualifications

Master's degree. Experience applying for and managing funding from federal and/or state programs. Experience with web site design.

Anticipated Pay Range $43,200-48,000 for 0.80 Full-Time Equivalent ( $54,000-60,000 at full-time equivalent) Other Information

This position may be eligible for a telework arrangement in accordance with the UVM Telework Policy, but will be expected to have a regular presence in Vermont. Applicants should reside within Vermont or within commuting distance to a UVM Extension Field Office.

This is a grant funded position, which currently has one year of funding.

Special Conditions Bargaining unit position, External candidates must complete a 4-month probationary period, Contingent on continued funding, Occasional evening and/or weekends required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime), A probationary period may be required for current UVM employees, Travel to and from worksites required, Background Check required for this position FLSA Exempt Union Position Yes, UVMSU ($20 minimum hourly rate)
