The Family Service Specialist will provide, orientation, classroom instruction, screenings and transitional plans to incarcerated men and their families, based on an understanding of parenting skills, healthy relationships, the re-entry and transition process, family dynamics and the impact that separation and incarceration can have on the family unit.
Assist with recruiting, screening, managing and running in-prison family focused discharge groups as well as community re-entry work.
Coordinate special events and graduations.
Develop transitional plans based on incarcerated and formerly incarcerated mens needs in relation to their families, housing, emotional and financial need.
Provide appropriate referrals and follow-up to assist in achievement of transitional plan goals.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Sociology, Education, Psychology, or related field is required; Master's degree in social work or equivalent is preferred.
Knowledge of child and human development is essential. Data Entry for all groups, screenings and classes. Some video group work as needed.
Experience: Two to five years of progressively responsible professional experience.
Experience in non-profit, case management, counseling and facilitation strongly preferred. Experience in criminal justice and/or family services environment preferred.
Related Skills or Knowledge:
Good organizational skills and attention to detail is required.
Must be able to interact with a multi-cultural population. Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to analyze and integrate information independently.
