Family Readiness Support Assistant:

Family Readiness Programs are a command responsibility. The command's leadership (which includes senior unit enlisted personnel as its most vital element) and demonstrate d concern for families before, during, and after a deployment/mobilization can directly impact the success of many of your unit's efforts.

Commanders must clearly articulate their goals and vision for family readiness. Senior non-commissioned officers' full support of this command vision is also critical. Empowering families to be self-sufficient, especially during times of mobilization and t raining, pays immeasurable dividends to unit commands and personnel.

Educating unit members about their benefits and entitlements is the most fundamental and yet most challenging aspect of any Family Readiness Program. It is fundamental because every member must understand their basic benefits and entitlements and be aware of the vast network of support agencies and organizations created to support them and their families.

It is also complex because the regulations and laws that govern them change often so it is critical that your unit members have the most current and relevant information. There are literally tens of thousands of people in many organizations who make it their duty to support Military Families. Connecting them to members of your unit is a continual task and no command staff can do it well without the assistance of volunteers and organizations that can fill the gaps.

The Family Readiness Support Assistants (FRSA) support the Commanders in their responsibilities to support Soldiers and Family Readiness, and provide mentorship and training for Family Readiness Group Leader s. FRSAs provide the command team with "continuum of care" for readiness, coordinating the various resources and training available, so commands, FRGs and ultimately Soldiers and families are as ready as possible for the military life.

Duties include:

Family Service Support: The Family Readiness Support Assistant (FRSA) is responsible for the synchronization with the Command leadership at the Brigade, Battalion, or Company level provide Family Support to the geographically dispersed force and their Families.

Prepares newsletters, flyers, telephone rosters, e-mail lists, reports (data usage, customer needs, outreach contacts, meeting announcements, FRG letters, sanctioned memos, appointment letters/ memos, information about upcoming events and activities, calendars, agendas and registration rosters/lists). Assure proper safekeeping, storage, and destruction of unit Family Readiness Records, and computer output (IAW State and Federal guidelines). The FRSA will establish and maintain the unit's Virtual Family Readiness Group (VFRG) web site. This maintenance includes editing information, uploading calendar events / activities/ meetings/ community opportunities, webinars and educational events, articles to be posted, gathering articles and summaries from FRG Leadership/Command Leadership. Will establish and update telephone trees and email distribution lists using the Family Data Sheet and unit alpha roster.

During Yellow Ribbon events, family day and other relevant events, activities and meetings where Family Members will be present, and maintain a sign-up list to record for e-mail and contact information. Attend FRG and Steering Committee meetings. Maintains unit volunteer records weekly to include updating fields with accurate of information.

Gather and disseminate information from Community Partners, local military assets such as Army Community Services (ACS) and other Social Service agencies, both Federal and private to promote quality of life opportunities for SM/FM. Communicate and partner with State and Family Program Agencies to schedule and coordinate briefings, orientations, and workshops on Soldier and Family Readiness issues. Deliver and disseminate timely and accurate information specific to upcoming events, activities, meetings and opportunities to Soldiers and their Family members.

Identify and track any changes/ updates to Well-Being Programs may include health benefits, family benefits and education. Maintain accurate, clear, timely and concise communication with Family Readiness Volunteers, ensuring volunteer forms are properly signed and maintained and volunteer hours are submitted. Provide a summary of Soldier and Family Readiness data collected and trend analysis in support of the Command's marketing programs for Soldier and Family Readiness training.


Travel may be required in order to accomplish mission goals to include evenings and weekends with the ability to use all modes of transportation. This position requires access to US Government facilities and systems. US Citizenship, a valid driver's license, auto insurance and reliable transportation to travel to assigned locations and nearby facilities is required.

Work Conditions:

Flexibility to work non-standard hours as needed in order to properly serve and assist clients.

Work is generally performed in a normal office environment where there is minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions; Job assignments may require working at client site where working conditions may vary.

Required Skills Required Qualifications:
Associates degree; Three years of professional experience in family support education, resources, and services.

Education and training skills: Demonstrates effective needs assessment and individual/small group training skills. Interpersonal skills:

Understands group dynamics; demonstrates self -awareness as well as empathy/sensitivity to others. Demonstrates the ability to embrace the military environment and to develop professional relationships with military and civilian personnel. Oral/written communication skills:

Communicates verbally and in writing in a clear, concise manner, and effectively convey s ideas- Demonstrated effective and dynamic oral presentation and facilitation skills. Organizational skills: Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple priorities, illustrates attention to detail, and shows evidence of being conscientious regarding deadlines.

Technical skills: Skill using appropriate software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Access, Outlook, and Power Point as well as data collection programs and basic automated skills. Curriculum development skills:

Experience or training in development and implementation of parenting skills curriculum. Articulates an understanding of adult learning principles and techniques. Program evaluation:

Demonstrated experience in conducting program evaluations. Articulates understanding of basic evaluation techniques and use of customer feedback to improve overall program effectiveness/impact. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Business, Communication, Public Relations or related field Strong understanding and experience with theory and practice of family support programs, including evidence-based practices and curriculum development. Two years' experience in Military lifestyle through personal and/or professional experience with Military personnel and Military Family members - someone who has in depth understanding about the Military culture and the Command structure.
