KVC Kansas is looking for a Family Preservation Specialist/Therapist who will provide direct, in-home services to high-risk families whose children are at substantial risk of placement out of home.

The Family Preservation Specialist/Therapist will:

  • assist in the continued goals of the organization to build a child welfare system that is safe, secure, and family centered. KVC relies heavily on community connections and evidence-based practice to provide outstanding care to children and families.
  • provide direct, in-home services to high-risk families whose children are at substantial risk of placement out of home
  • use the strengths-based approach to assist clients in developing goals and objectives to increase safety at home
  • demonstrate experience in working with children and families, superior organization and time management skills and professionalism.
  • maintain accurate and timely documentation of all interactions with clients. Strong computer skills are necessary to maintain documentation in KVC's proprietary software
  • testify in court hearings and provide written updates to cases with court supervision
  • provide intensive in-home therapy on a regularly scheduled basis with master's level credentials

Due to the unique needs of the families we serve, this role does not have a predictable schedule. KVC staff have the flexibility to manage their own time to create a positive work-life balance, but there will be evening and weekend work required as well as significant travel time to visit families in their homes. Mileage reimbursement is provided for all company travel.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's in social work, substance abuse/addictions/community counseling, human development, child and family development, applied family and youth studies, public health, health sciences, trauma studies, sociology/social services, education/early childhood, mental health/rehabilitation counseling, counseling psychology, marriage and family therapy, or psychology is required.

  • Ability to obtain a temporary or full licensure with the Kansas Behavioral Science Regulatory Board (ksbsrb.ks.org) within the first 90 days of employment is highly preferred, but not required.

  • Qualified applicants must be at least 21 years of age or older, have a valid driver's license and car insurance.

Other duties may be assigned according to qualification of staff and development of programs. * To continue to build a child welfare system that is safe, secure, and stable; family centered, connected to the community; and which relies on evidence-based practice necessary to support contract services in Kansas. * Assist family members in finding resources (housing, utilities, employment, mental health, and health care) that are needed for a child to remain in their home. * Teach parents daily living skills such as budgeting, housekeeping (for healthy living environment) and parenting and providing follow up support. * Document all contacts with clients and collaterals. * Provide information to and assist the Family Preservation Therapist (FPT) assigned to the family. * Assist in the assessment of progress in family functioning. * Maintain current documentation in client files. * Perform face to face contact with families in their homes and supervise parent/child interactions as required. * Participate in staffing cases. * Arrange transportation for clients to case plan related activities. * Present as positive role model for clients and families. * Attend court hearings as required and represent the agency in a professional manner. * Assist in fling, typing, answering phone calls, as needed.
