GENERAL SUMMARY AND SCOPE
Under the guidance of the Program Director, directs, plans, coordinates and is responsible for clinical instruction of the residency programs. Works closely with and supervises residents. The primary responsibility of the faculty is to implement the program requirements as specified by the ACGME, and coordinate the resident's activities.
ESSENTIAL TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Works closely with program director in reporting the performance evaluation and progress of all residents.
Provides direct and indirect supervision of residents in patient care.
The faculty shall be available to residents to discuss any patient concerns, problems, etc.
Assists and maintains an educational environment conducive to educating residents in each of the ACGME competency areas.
Assists in developing, scheduling and evaluating all educational activities.
The faculty shall review the charts of residents' patients. This review will take place each time a resident treats a patient under their preceptorship.
The faculty must verify that the resident demonstrates proficiency in meeting or exceeding the minimum standards for quality patient care utilizing the competency based evaluations.
Participates in ACGME program site visits.
Serves a member of the Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) and Clinical Competency Committee (CCC).
Participates in faculty development activities, including attendance at regional, state, national, educational meetings.
Serves as a resident advisor.
Serves as a member of the Resident Selection Committee; participates in the interviewing and selection of prospective candidates for appointment to the residency programs.
Participates as an active participant in the faculty meetings and other designated committee meetings.
Participates in resident education including didactic presentations, case conferences and procedure workshops. Attends and supervises selected Journal Clubs.
Participates in scholarly activity as per ACGME requirements; Assists and supervises residents in scholarly activity requirements.
OTHER TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Serves as Medical Director for the Continuing Medical Education (CME) program at Firelands Regional Medical Center.
Assists in coordination of all medical education activities, including scheduling of didactic series and all clinical rotations.
Develops, implements, and monitors programs for medical education quality assurance and risk management.
Oversees the coordination of the residents' participation in the ambulatory clinics.
Maintains open communication with residents, medical students, professional staff, and Medical Center management team to help in achieving successful clinical training.
Upholds and enforces hospital administrative and human resources policies and procedures.
Keeps abreast of changes in health care technology and shifts in medical education modalities to maintain highest quality programs.
Acts as liaison for the residency programs to the hospital's Designated Institutional Officer (DIO).
Performs other duties and accepts relevant responsibilities deemed appropriate by the program director.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be a graduate from a College of Medicine with an MD or DO degree.
Current certificate in the specialty by the ABMS/AOA or other boards defined in the ACGME Program Requirements for Graduate Medical Education.
An active member in good standing on the hospital professional staff, or qualified and accepted for such privileges.
The faculty must establish and maintain an environment of inquiry and scholarship with an active research component.
Ability to work effectively in the constant state of change impacting medical education programs.
Must demonstrate experience and/or interest in the field of Medical Education as well as administrative ability and sufficient expertise to implement educational programs.
Punctual attendance at assigned work location is required.
Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner and maintain an accident free work place, including ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of emergency codes.
Ability to comply with OSHA regulations and CDC standard and transmission-based precaution recommendations and to utilize proper personal protective equipment. Ability to comply with provisions of applicable S.D.S. forms.
Successful complete of a ninety (90) day probationary period.
