POSITION TITLE: Family Engagement Specialist
Supports families, school staff and community partners in their efforts to assist students in achieving educational excellence and bridge the gap between home, school and community.
Trains volunteers, school staff and/or families on family engagement best practices designed to:
enhance student success
respond appropriately to the needs and concerns of families,
conduct informal discussions at school sites, and
implement activities that connect families with teachers
Consults with principal and other school-based leaders to effectively coordinate and implement outreach to families.
Works with school-based leaders to coordinate on-going mechanisms for families to play various roles at school and home.
Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or unit manager, department director, or executive director.
Conducts outrecah in collaboration with the school Family Liaisons to increase family engagement, including conducting home visits.
Mentors school personnel and community members in community outreach techniques, including home visiting.
Identifies, develops and disseminates resources that enhance family-teacher collaboration
Provides technical assistance to families and community members on how to navigate the school system and more effectively support student learning
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge of best practices for engaging families.
Knowledge of data base and spread spreadsheet software
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
High School Diploma or GED
Four (4) years of experience working with families and schools.
One (1) year experience in training adults.

Ability to work independently
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem solving skills.
Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects.
Computer, business English and basic mathematics skills.
Knowledge of the needs of youth and diverse ethnic populations.
Knowledge of Albuquerque's community.
