Purpose: The District Family and Student Engagement Support Coordinator employs proactive engagement strategies to promote the involvement of parents in their child's school experience, as well as coordinates the delivery of intervention/supports to students and families experiencing attendance issues, foster care placements, and/or homelessness.

Salary Range: $65,639-$78,353

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides ongoing training, coordination, and technical assistance to building Points of Contact (POCs) to facilitate awareness and understanding of homeless issues, as well as coordination of services and supports to students identified as homeless or unaccompanied youth or those placed in foster care.

  • Creates and utilizes an organized, accurate, and updated structure for referrals and other data/records related to all aspects of identifying and servicing homeless, foster care, and unaccompanied youth in Lewiston Public Schools.

  • Maintains documentation and tracks spending of McKinney-Vento grant funds for the purpose of required state reporting and monitoring.

  • Provides guidance to administrators and staff in the implementation of the McKinney-Vento Act in the form of professional development and technical assistance with case-specific situations.

  • Builds awareness of district policy and current legal requirements related to student attendance with administrators, staff, and other stakeholders.

  • Consults with and provides support to administrators, counselors, and other designated personnel at the school regarding issues of irregular attendance, truancy, and school dropout.

  • Supports parent engagement and family outreach events at schools and the district level, including the maintenance of Parent Engagement funds utilized through Title I.

  • Develops and maintains community partnerships in the interest of supporting the level and quality of parent engagement efforts and creating access to additional resources for families and students

  • Collaborates with the LPS Multilingual Family Engagement Coordinator to ensure that parent engagement efforts consider the unique needs of Multilingual/New American Families across LPS

  • Supervises district staff as assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A Bachelor's degree, preferably in the Social Sciences (i.e. Social Work, Counseling, Sociology, Psychology, etc.) is preferred, however a candidate's BA/BS degree in education or another concentration with related work experience, or a combination of relevant college coursework and a strong background working with youth and families may also be considered.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Clear and accurate oral and written communication is central to the work.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general counseling periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of staff/administration and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to effectively utilize Google applications (sheets, forms, documents, sites, etc.) Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Committee policies. Ability to exercise follow-through; carrying out tasks, projects, and other responsibilities to completion in a timely manner.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to sit and talk or hear. Occasionally the employee will repeat the same hand, arm or finger motion many times.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
