Family and Community Engagement Manager

What is the Role?
The Family & Community Engagement (FACE) Manager provides opportunities for families to engage in their child's learning and helps increase access to and awareness of education at Coney Island Prep (CIP). Developing meaningful partnerships in our community and involving families from day one plays a critical role in the academic and overall success of our scholars. The FACE Manager liaises between families and schools and plays a crucial role in scholar journeys toward the college and career of their choice. The FACE Manager will be hired by and report to the Director of Student Recruitment & Enrollment.
What You'll Be Asked To Do
Family Engagement
Build relationships with families throughout their recruitment, enrollment, and registration period and by attending on-campus family engagement events throughout the school year
Organize two network-wide family engagement events per school year
Participate in canvassing, community advertising, and tabling; manage budget for events and advertising, execute purchasing
Collaborate with the Director of Student Recruitment & Enrollment on strategy for student recruitment, enrollment, and registration
Ensure org-wide and community resources are included in school newsletter
Assist campuses with required communication of DOE middle and high school enrollment process
Ensure families completion with high response rates on NYC DOE Family Survey
Serve as a point of contact for families who have questions about the school; liaise with Chief Schools Officer and Chief Operating Officer to support families in having their voices heard
Manage small budget for, and administer microgrants to, families who are in extreme financial need and for whom existing community resources may not close the gap sufficiently to relieve immediate impact on their scholar
Community Engagement
Oversee and maintain local community partnerships, keeping index of community partners and strategically leveraging these partnerships in school efforts
Engage key stakeholders in the community to support and attend Coney Island Prep events
Connect community resources to scholars and their families through school-based staff
Plan organization-wide community events and community service opportunities for all staff members
Partner with our High School to facilitate community service opportunities for scholars
Connect Coney Island Prep to community resources including local non-profits, community and faith-based organizations, and businesses to deepen our organization's impact
Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to broaden Coney Island Prep's message and reach within District 21, charter schools, and New York City
Coordinate visits, campaigns, and collaboration with elected officials and advocacy partners; organize community events where elected officials attend and participate
Participate in policy and advocacy meetings with other charter schools and bring best practices back to CIP
What You'll Need
Bachelor's degree required; at least three years of teaching, school operations or community organizing experience preferred
Background in adult education, advocacy, grassroots organizing, social or civil action campaigns, or community organizing preferred
Established knowledge of Excel or Google Sheets; experience with project and budget management software; knowledge of Schoolrunner, SchoolMint, PowerSchool and/or HubSpot a plus
Impeccable writing skills
Experience with organizing, planning, and facilitating large events and meetings
Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends throughout the year
Cultural competencies to work in low-income communities and a willingness to examine own biases across lines of difference
A strong track record of building positive relationships across various stakeholder groups demonstrating a value towards diversity and inclusivity
Proven organizational, oral, and written communication skills; timeliness; accuracy; and consistent and regular communication; and ability to meet due dates
Self reflective and open to feedback, with the ambition and desire to grow one's professional practice
A positive, solutions-oriented attitude and drive for excellence
Eagerness to work collaboratively as part of a team

Coney Island Prep is a college preparatory public charter school in Brooklyn, New York. Benefits and Compensation
Employees at Coney Island Prep are provided with salaries that are set through a lens of equity and based on an individual's skills and experiences relevant to the role. The salary range for this position is from $70,000 - 85,000.
As a regular, full time employee of Coney Island Prep you will be eligible for benefits that include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance as well as a 403(b) retirement benefit package with match and Paid Family Leave.
