Famicos Foundation's Pathway to Success project will work with educators and school administrators in the schools in our neighborhood(s) to connect community volunteers that can assist educators with their day to day work in the classroom which targets students who may need additional assistance. We will target retired educators and professionals that will be willing to donate a few hours a day to assist teachers in the classroom at least 3 days a week.

Pathways to Success will target students attending Cleveland Municipal School District (CMSD) to help increase attendance, test scores, graduation rates, and literacy. We are going to explore barriers families encounter that prevent a student from attending school which hinders the success of the student, ultimately resulting in a poor report card for the student and the school. We will seek out partner organizations that can assist with providing resources for students and parents to increase student success.

This program will also help guide and provide leadership for existing neighborhood programs like the Hough Reads, Center for Inspired Learning program, and the Circle Scholars program just to name a few. There are several programs that target youth in our neighborhood and our goal is to make sure that parents know what programming exists and how to connect their children to it. This overarching program will connect and funnel resources and volunteers to other programs, too, to increase the impact of all programs in Glenville and Hough.

VIEW JOBS 3/16/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-06-14T00:00 In 2016, Dayton received a HUD Choice Neighborhood Planning Grant focused on revitalizing two public housing communities and surrounding neighborhoods. As a part of the grant, CityWide spent two years working with residents on the ground to identify community priorities and develop an adopted transformation plan for the community. The VISTA member will work on implementing strategies identified in the plan, specifically focused on increasing individual assets and improving access to healthy food. Working in coordination with a job-training and life-coaching program already on the ground, the VISTA member will identify public housing resident needs related to financial literacy and then work with partners to develop a spectrum of on-site services to address these needs, with a goal of residents becoming more financially independent. The VISTA member will develop new relationships with community partners focused on financial literacy, improving credit, opening checking/savings accounts. This work will provide residents with the tools they need to build a more stable financial foundation and improve options in other areas, including future housing. Additionally, the VISTA member will work to provide better access to a range of healthy food staples by building capacity for programs that were successfully piloted over the last year. The VISTA will work to increase sites for a mobile farm stand through partnerships with community organizations and conduct outreach among residents to share information on the farm stand sites and evaluate whether the farm stands are meeting the needs of residents. The VISTA will also work with a solar garden to help develop a sustainable, year-round growing plan and recruit a series of volunteers who will support growing within the garden. Increasing the capacity of both programs will ensure that residents have easy (often on-site) access to multiple different types of affordable and healthy food options.
