The Fall 2018 Co-Op Human Factors will be based in Hollis, NH. The Human Factors Intern will gain real-world experience in human factors engineering, and the medical product development process. In this position, you will solve complex problems and generate new ideas for a global organization while utilizing creativity and innovation to develop entrepreneurial skills. You will be involved in projects which matter to the business and help achieve company goals. Will work on challenging projects in support of real-time business issues, to develop skills and experiences.

Here is a glimpse of what you'll do

  • Learn and practice standard human factors research methods such as usability testing, preference testing, user needs research interviews, and ethnography

  • Assist with qualitative study execution and research planning, including coordinating with vendors, developing research materials and data collection instruments

  • Plan and conduct usability testing (both formative and summative)

  • Prepare user research protocols and scripts. Moderate, note-take, analyze data, and assist in producing reports suitable for regulatory files

  • Support interdisciplinary teams with industrial designers and engineers to analyze and synthesize data, conduct HF evaluations, and generate concept directions, product specifications, and usability goals

  • Assist with user research, including ethnography in healthcare settings and or patients' homes

Here is some of what you'll need (required)

  • Junior or Senior in a Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Industrial Engineering, or a related degree program

  • 3-6 months' availability during the Fall/Winter (September 2018 - March 2019 - dates are somewhat flexible)

  • Passion to learn, contribute, and take on challenges

  • Self-motivated, resourceful, mature, and a team player

  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA

In this position, you will be responsible for research and usability activities at Farm, being directly involved with the design, development, and execution of research protocols. We are looking for someone who demonstrates: * Intense collaboration * Passionate customer focus * Thoughtful, fast, disciplined execution * Tenacious commitment to continuous improvement * Relentless drive to win Here is a glimpse of what you'll do: * Act as Senior Researcher and Lead on client programs, responsible for deliverables, budgets, schedules, and activities. * Undertake user research, such as ethnography in healthcare settings, focus groups, preference tests, and usability tests (both formative and summative). Develop research materials, such as protocols, scripts, and data collection instruments. Analyze research data and produce deliverables suitable for HF/UE files. * Implement a variety of user-centered design methods, such as workflow analysis and personas. Optimize user interface design by integrating usability and ergonomics. * Work on interdisciplinary teams with designers and engineers to analyze and evaluate data, conduct HF evaluations, and generate concepts, product specifications, and usability goals. * Utilize and further develop state-of-the-art protocols, standards, systems, and research techniques. * Manages outside suppliers for participant recruiting and research facilities, language translation, etc. * Provide accurate, well-defined, and articulate verbal and written presentations to clients. * Interact with the design and engineering disciplines to develop good processes, close working relationships, and successful products. * Support business development efforts by leading prospect meetings and sales presentations and authoring proposals. Here is some of what you'll need (required): * Bachelor's or Master's degree in human factors, usability, engineering psychology, and research from an accredited school. * +5 years' experience as a Human Factors Engineer. * Proficient in Excel. * Strong experience doing user research and testing.
