Maintain Fairgrounds facilities for year-round usage. Supervise the activities of temporary workers, contracted help and volunteers.

Manage Fairgrounds events (to include annual County Fair), supervising events to ensure satisfaction of customer and protection of county assets. Perform preventive, scheduled, and custodial maintenance of grounds and facilities.

Generally, the hiring range is $39,465-$49,330 annually. Qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position will be taken into consideration when determining hiring salary.

Typical work schedule: Sunday

  • Wednesday, four 10 hour shifts. Additional day, evening, weekend and/or holiday hours may be required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.)

  • Available during events for any needs and to monitor and solve any safety and security concerns and protect County assets. Work with event holders on last minute prep, verify sound, lights, door access, grooming.

  • Drive and operate a variety of motorized and powered equipment to include heavy and light equipment in compliance with safety policies and procedures. Carry out tasks with multiple pieces of equipment to setup, tear down and maintain events to include arena grooming as well as grounds maintenance. Performs daily inspection of equipment before and after use to include preventative maintenance.

  • Sets up chairs, tables, stages, panels etc. for scheduled events to include break down and clean up. Document materials and services provided for events to ensure event holder is billed properly.

  • Provides customer service for internal and external customers. Maintain positive working relationship with customers to ensure specifications are understood, communicated, and executed.

  • Coordinates with internal and external customers, and vendors to make repairs, coordinate work, and order supplies.

  • Execute daily, weekly and monthly inspections of buildings, and structures to determine cleanliness, functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repairs, making notes and recommendations using pre-established guidelines.

  • Performs general maintenance of facilities and grounds and basic construction and repair work. Troubleshoots building mechanical, electrical, H.V.A.C., plumbing, sound, security life safety systems.

  • Ensures sidewalks adjacent to County facilities are kept free of snow and ice.

  • Oversee the work of temporary workers, contracted staff and volunteers.

  • Interacts with Castle Rock Fire Dept to ensure events are fire code compliant, Sheriff for security needs, hired security and parking staff, service technicians, and volunteers.

  • Completes accurate work orders and reporting to include documenting time and materials used through County work order process. Maintain preventive and unscheduled maintenance logs.

  • Prepare and maintain facilities for emergency shelters: animal and people evacuation, snow and emergency shelter.

  • Follows best practices for biosecurity to maintain healthy and sanitary conditions.

  • Completes preventative maintenance on mechanical custodial equipment. Inventory supplies to ensure adequate stock.

  • Cleaning and sanitizing duties necessary to maintain clean facilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to assigned Manager/Supervisor. Supervision may be minimal at times due to work schedules/loads.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not directly supervise other employees, although may supervise contractors, temporary labor and volunteers. This position has frequent contact with event holders at events to ensure satisfaction of customer and protection of County assets.

INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: Ability to use experience and knowledge to make appropriate decisions. Capable of problem solving without supervision.

Take initiative to identify and anticipate problems before they occur.

Ability to forecast events and setup needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.

  • Two years of building maintenance education or experience.

  • Event setup and customer service. Technical training in building mechanical systems is preferred.

  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge: Knowledge of heavy and light equipment operations.

Some knowledge of building mechanical systems. Knowledge of safety standards and practices. Skill in the use of a variety of hand and power tools. Knowledge of essential hardware/software and AV equipment/PA systems, and basic computer skills.

Skills: Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently. Understand arena dirt grooming techniques and soil consistency to maintain workable safe footing for all types of use. Hand and foot coordination to coordinate movements of large machinery in tight spaces.

Ability to accurately complete detailed work orders. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationship with County employees and the public.

Abilities: Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.

Customer service and guest relations experience is highly preferred. Work independently on assignments. Establishes priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time-management methodology with little to no supervision.

The ability to read and understand building blueprints and schematics. Footing requirements for various animal disciplines (i.e. barrel racing, roping, reining, dog events).

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check including fingerprinting through a national database.

Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License upon hire, with complying insurance. Review of motor vehicle record is required at time of hire and periodically throughout employment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Physical Work Environment: Work is performed both inside a facility and outdoors in all weather conditions.

Some hazardous situations may exist based on work to be performed. The employee occasionally works in and around high-volume traffic, high, precarious places, and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is required to wear safety equipment to perform most of the essential functions of this job.

The noise level in the work environment is typically loud. There are frequent interruptions and multiple demands. Available to work a flexible schedule to include weekends, days, nights, holidays and additional hours as needed. (Sample schedule: Wednesday 9:30am

  • 8pm, Thursday 7am

  • 5:30pm, Friday 11:30am

  • 10pm, Saturday 9:30am

  • 8pm). On call for events and emergency shelter operations.

Physical Demands: Work requires the ability to frequently lift and carry 50lbs.

Work requires the ability to push and pull 100lbs. frequently. Also requires frequent bending, squatting, standing, climbing, kneeling, walking and driving. Required to operate heavy equipment for up to 10 hours a day.

May be required to occasionally work in small, hard to reach spaces. May be required to pass a physical capabilities exam.

Material and Equipment Directly Used: Various hand and power tools; computer; general construction equipment; motorized heavy equipment to include tractors, groomers, floor scrubber machine, loader, four-wheel drive, water truck, skid steer with various attachments, riding lawn mower, brooms, blowers, compactor roller, lifts, and snow plow.

This may mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond what is normally required. In the event that an exempt employee does work more than 40 hours a week in support of County operations during an emergency, such employee may receive overtime or other appropriate wage compensation in accordance with existing County policies or at the discretion of the County.
