Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager II (SSMII), the Fair Employment and Housing (FEH) Consultant III provides professional, quality service and accurate information to the public by accepting, investigating, and resolving complaints of employment and housing discrimination, denial of services by a public accommodation, and acts of hate violence under the Fair Employment and Housing Act, Ralph Civil Rights Act, and the Unruh Civil Rights Act. This is the nonsupervisory, technical specialist FEH Consultant level position.

Department Information

The Civil Rights Department (CRD or Department) is the civil rights enforcement agency for the State of California. CRD's mission is to protect all people in California from employment, housing and public accommodation discrimination, human trafficking, and hate violence.

The CRD is the largest state civil rights enforcement agency in the country. It enforces the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Unruh Civil Rights Act, Disabled Persons Act, Ralph Civil Rights Act, and the California Trafficking Victims Protection Act. The Department has jurisdiction over both private and public entities operating within the State of California, including corporate entities, private sector companies that contract with the State of California, and all State departments and local governments.

The CRD receives, investigates, conciliates, and initiates individual and systemic discrimination complaints in its five offices throughout California. CRD litigates individual, class, group and systemic cases in all California jurisdictions, including state and federal courts. It leads education and outreach efforts to stakeholders and the public, and has an active regulatory and legislative program.

Telework Opportunity

FEH Consultant III (Specialist)

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required and must be submitted with your application. The SOQ is a narrative discussion of how the candidate's education, training, experience, and skills meet the desirable qualifications and demonstrate the candidate's ability to perform the job duties listed in this bulletin.

Instructions: SOQ must be typed in 12-point Arial font and is limited to no more than two (2) pages. Candidate's name must be listed at the top of each page and each statement must be numbered and answered in the order listed.

1.Describe your experience analyzing complex issues, while having to apply appropriate interpretation and application of various laws, rules, and regulations.
