Position Summary

Concordia University invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the Visual & Performing Arts Department on the Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) campus in Mequon, WI to begin in the fall of 2024. The successful candidate has a minimum of five years' experience as a university educator and is well-versed in teaching an array of courses using a variety of digital tools and artistic methods. We are searching for a visionary individual with a comprehensive skill set in graphic design who is proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, After Effects and Audition) and UX/U. The successful applicant should also be a master in web development and possess a strong command over HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. This position requires a generalist who is well versed in both computer and traditional illustration and a thorough understanding of both 2D and 3D animation principles. We value proficiency in motion graphics, an eye for photographic lighting, and the ability to express ideas through drawing and painting.

This faculty position includes advising and mentoring students, service on faculty committees within the department, school and university, and curriculum development, revision and assessment. All CUW faculty members hold 12-month contracts and teach in fall, spring and summer semesters as assigned.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in general Adobe products, photography, web design, portfolio building, video, and other graphic design and art programs primarily for the Visual & Performing Arts Department within the School of Arts & Sciences at Concordia University's Mequon campus

  • Hold regular office hours and advise students on their academic degree plans

  • Attend orientation and faculty and university/school/department meetings

  • Serve on university and school committees

  • Produce peer-reviewed scholarship or creative achievements related to art or art education

  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • MFA or earned doctorate in art or a related field

  • Previous successful teaching experience in a university at the undergraduate level

  • Active membership in a Christian congregation: CUW gives preference in hiring to members of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)
