The Department of Music and Theatre at Hastings College welcomes applications for a full time, Visiting Assistant Professor of Music for the 2024-2025 academic year. The ideal candidate would be a music education generalist.

Duties will include teaching music education courses, music theory, history, and aural skills courses, with the possibility of teaching applied woodwinds, voice, or percussion, as well as the possibility of directing an ensemble, depending on the candidate's area of specialty, for the 2024-2025 academic year. The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree (or equivalent, ABD considered) in Music Education, or related field/degree from a nationally accredited institution of higher education. 2-4 years teaching experience at the college level is preferred, either concurrent to or following graduate studies. Professional performing experience is also favored.

ABOUT HASTINGS COLLEGE MUSIC

Hastings College Music has long been noted for its tradition of excellence in all areas of music. HC Music's expressed purpose is to provide a unique musical education that will help the music student prepare for a variety of professional careers in the field of music, and to provide ensemble opportunities for all students at Hastings College. The music program is fully accredited by all teacher education agencies and is a member of the National Association of Schools of Music.

HC Music is located in the Hayes M. Fuhr Hall of Music, a facility erected in 1956 and totally renovated in 1990 specifically for music.

The Hayes M. Fuhr Hall of Music features rehearsal halls to accommodate performing ensembles, a recital hall seating 240 persons, 18 practice rooms, classroom space, individual studios for professors, and a student lounge. Fuhr Hall is well-equipped with Steinway pianos and a pipe organ for study, practice and performance.

Beginning piano students receive instruction in our Yamaha Clavinova Piano Laboratory fully integrated with new PC's equipped with software for composition, ear-training, marching band show design, and arranging. The performing ensembles have the finest equipment available for their use. In 2005, Hastings College was named an "All Steinway School."
