Position purpose

Vaughn College seeks applicants for a full-time tenure track faculty position in the Engineering Technology Departments (Master candidates will be considered as non-tenure track). The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Computer Science programs and this candidate will assist department with the development and implementation process of curriculum and courses in a BS in Applied Mathematics, Control Systems, and Automation. Candidates must possess a broad professional background in order to support and expand a wide variety of departmental foundation courses and sub-disciplinary elective offerings in both engineering and computer science.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

  • Having experience in curriculum development, and experience training faculty in curriculum methodology and design.

  • Developing courses in applied math discipline including mathematical modeling, computational mathematics, discrete mathematics, Control Systems, and numerical & computational methods.

  • Assisting the HSI-STEM Project Director and STEM Pathways Advisor with student monitoring and work with the external evaluator to collect student data of program evaluation.

  • Teaching undergraduate courses in Applied Math, Control Systems, and Automation.

  • Be knowledgeable in computational method, numerical techniques, discrete math, and data science, and be familiar with computer programming ant application.

  • Advise students and serve on department/college committees

  • Participation in scholarly activities that includes working with students in presenting and publishing papers related to applied math

  • Designing courses that support the student learning outcomes outlined by the department.

  • Assessing student performance throughout the course and program using the Vaughn College faculty course assessment model.

Besides assisting the engineering department with development and implementation process of courses and concentration in applied math, the successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate courses in both engineering and applied math. Teaching experience and a knowledge of both assessment of student outcomes and learning communities is preferred. Industrial experience is also beneficial.

Education and/or Experience Requirements

Include educational level, certifications, computer proficiencies, required specialized proficiencies and/or previous experience - number of years. Experience with specific equipment.

A PhD in any related field of engineering and mathematics is preferred. Master degree candidates with extensive industrial Experience in applied math, control systems, AI, data science, and knowledge of computer science can be considered for this position.

Work environment and physical functions

This position is located in an office environment. Generally an employee needs to be able to sit, stand, and navigate within the office area. The office equipment either individually used or shared with a department is the responsibility of all employees.

Compensation:

The compensation for this position is expected to range from $72,000 - $83,000 per year. The selected candidate will be offered a salary commensurate with their education, experience, and grant related responsibilities.
