Job Description:
SUNY Delhi seeks a dynamic, forward-thinking, and engaging faculty member to join the School of Nursing, Arts and Sciences. SUNY Delhi prides itself on being a welcoming college community for all. Primary responsibilities include:
Teaching undergraduate-level lectures and laboratories in chemistry, biology, and other potential areas such as organic chemistry and microbiology, in line with the candidate's experience and qualifications. Demonstrate commitment to participating in a collaborative teaching environment.
Guide, advise, and mentor students academically and professionally. Hold regular office hours for students and advisees.
Engage in service activities, including department, school and college-wide meetings; committee work, and events to help advance the mission and values of the institution.
The teaching assignment includes lectures and hands-on laboratories covering fundamental techniques. This position comes with an opportunity to develop courses for distance education and will be engaged with core curriculum development. This is a 10-month position with a student advising commitment. The successful candidate is expected to be an interactive member of the faculty and a leader for curriculum innovation in the department and the field. There will be additional teaching opportunities available during summer and January terms. This is a full-time two-year commitment with an academic year obligation (10 months) beginning Fall 2024.
Requirements:
Qualifications
Possess a Ph.D. in cellular biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or closely related discipline (or be able to complete the degree by the start of the appointment in August 2024).
Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, strong attention to detail, and computer skills.
Exhibit personal, academic, and/or work experience engaging with diversity, equity, and inclusion and/or a commitment to facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the campus community. Such experience may include, but is not limited to, an academic/scholarly track record focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion; work, volunteer/unpaid/community service; or related experience/expertise in serving underserved or vulnerable areas and/ or populations.
Be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship.
Preferred will be given to candidates who:
Demonstrate success in teaching at the undergraduate level
Demonstrate experience in assessing and improving introductory biology and chemistry courses
Are current SUNY students, alumni, and/or Fellows.
Are from a low-income background (e.g., Pell-eligible as undergraduates), were first-generation college students (students whose parents have not earned a bachelor's degree), have overcome adversity, are AmeriCorps alumni, or are veterans.
Additional Information:
Salary $50,000 - $52,000 commensurate with degree and experience.
10-month academic year position
