The Gladstone Institutes are a renowned center of excellence focused on leading-edge science to overcome disease. We are an independent, not-for-profit research organization affiliated with the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and located in an award winning building at UCSF's Mission Bay Campus. We aim to contribute to the health and wellbeing of all people through research, education and outreach in the areas of neuroscience, brain disorders, cardiovascular disease, stem cell technology, virology and immunology.

We invite applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Senior Investigator at the Gladstone Institute of Neurological Disease. The successful candidate will have joint appointments as Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in the In Residence faculty series in the Department of Neurology or another suitable Department, and in relevant Graduate Training Programs at UCSF.

Qualifications

Primary criteria for appointment will be outstanding records of innovative research, academic performance and commitment to disease-focused neuroscience. Of particular interest are applicants who are using systems biology, single cell analysis, computational approaches, and/or cellular and molecular neuroscience to unravel mechanisms of major brain disorders such as Alzheimer's disease and related conditions.

Demonstrated ability to attract independent grant support is another selection criterion. Additional requirements include a medical or doctoral degree, and at least four years of teaching/mentoring experience (during residency, fellowship, and/or in the lab) by the time the appointment becomes effective.

We are inviting applications from talented students with matching interests and ambitions to join our highly interactive team of scientists at the Gladstone Institutes in San Francisco. Our group focuses on processes that cause cognitive disorders ranging from dementias to epileptic encephalopathies and autism spectrum disorders. We use rodent and tissue culture models to investigate disease mechanisms and address related fundamental neuroscientific questions at the molecular, cellular, network and behavioral level. Experimental models are also used to develop and evaluate novel therapeutic strategies. The clinical relevance and potential of these strategies are assessed through interdisciplinary collaborations involving clinical programs and other partners. Qualifications Postdoctoral candidates should possess a PhD, MD, or both and have a strong background in neuroscience or other relevant areas of biomedical research, as well as an outstanding record of academic achievements and research productivity.
