The Department of Information Technology at SUNY Cobleskill seeks outstanding applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position. The successful candidate will join the department faculty and become part of a dedicated team focused on providing rich and meaningful educational experiences for our students. Candidates' focus within the technology field is open but may broadly include areas such as networking/Internet of Things (IoT)/wireless technologies, cloud computing, data science, web development, software engineering and programming, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and/or digital agriculture. Candidates should be able to take an integrative approach in working with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of backgrounds. The successful candidate will teach existing as well as new courses in the Bachelor of Technology programs in Information Technology and Cybersecurity, as well as the associate's program in Computer Information Systems. This is a teaching-focused position; however, research and other forms of scholarship are expected. Areas of responsibility include:
Teaching Responsibilities
Teach a 4-4 course load in a variety of modalities that may include face-to-face, online, hybrid, and HyFlex
Provide engaging instruction that employs an active learning approach
Engage in collaborative, interdisciplinary teaching efforts across academic units
Participate in the assessment of course, student learning, and program outcomes
Provide 5 weekly office hours for students
Advisement
Advise students on their academic programs and track completion of their requirements
Advise students toward their academic and career goals
Program Development
Participate in ongoing program assessment activities
Participate in program analysis as well as develop and implement recommendations for curriculum revisions as needed
Design new curriculum as needed to meet emerging needs
Demonstrate interest in interdisciplinary course and/or program development that explores intersections between digital technologies and agriculture
Academic and College Commitment
Engage in service to the Department of Information Technology
Serve on college-wide committees
Engage in the academic and organizational life of the college
Engage in ongoing professional development
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
A Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Information Technology, Information Systems or a closely related field from an accredited University is required. A commitment to teaching excellence and student success is essential. Candidates should have strong hands-on technical skills in at least one or more areas including networking/IoT/wireless technologies, cloud computing, mobile computing, data science technologies, computer programming, web development, artificial intelligence tools and technologies, and/or information security.
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the minimum qualifications, it is preferred the candidate also have:
Doctoral Degree (PhD or other) in Computer Science, Information Science, Information Technology, Information Systems or a closely related field
Experience with various teaching and course development in various modalities (online, hybrid, face-to-face, HyFlex)
Demonstrated ability to teach diverse populations
Demonstrated ability to engage in scholarly activities
Digital technology industry experience
Additional Information:
The anticipated start date is August 2024
This is a full-time, tenure-track (10-month) appointment
The salary range for Assistant Professor is $55,000 - $60,000.
