Primary responsibility for teaching both lecture and lab sections of general and organic chemistry; participate in curriculum review and development, college governance, recruitment and retention effort, and professional development; advise students and perform other college service as appropriate; participate in activities leading to the implementation and the sustainability of alternative modes of delivery.

  • Chemistry lecture and laboratory sections, in particular organic chemistry and organic chemistry laboratory sections.

  • Working closely with the Physical Science Dept. to: develop innovative methods for teaching chemistry; review the research and experiment with pedagogy as well as evaluate alternative teaching strategies; assess student learning outcomes; incorporate technology in the classroom; develop and implement new courses (i.e. Biochemistry).

  • Advising students.

  • Actively participating in department, division, and professional staff meetings as well as other components of college governance.

  • Maintenance of professional expertise in areas of specialization.

  • Participating in college programs and activities.

  • Assisting the Dean and Chair of the Physical Science Dept. to establish and maintain partnerships with related college and university Chemistry programs.

  • Working with laboratory technician to maintain lab facility and equipment/lab supplies.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

REQUIRED:  

  • Master's degree in Chemistry or closely related field; 
  • Demonstrated excellent teaching skills including interactive teaching and varied pedagogical strategies; 
  • Experience using technology in both the classroom and laboratory; 
  • Teaching experience in higher education; 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; 
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff & student body.

NOTE:  A teaching demonstration will be a required part of the interview process.

PREFERRED: 

  • Community college teaching experience in chemistry lecture and laboratory sections, background and experience in teaching organic chemistry; 
  • Interest in promoting and participating in interdisciplinary learning; 
  • Ability to integrate computer technology into instruction; 
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Full-time, tenure-track MCCC/MTA position

Salary:  Minimum $51,678 - $61,993.  Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full State benefits.
