Job Summary
The faculty member will teach lectures and laboratories for students enrolled in the Funeral Service Education Program at the College. Teaching assignments may include morning, afternoon, and evening and weekend assignments. This is a full-time Faculty (FAC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College's District Board of Trustees.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provides instruction for the CCC and AS in Funeral Services courses
Evaluates, recruits, advises, and mentors Funeral Services students
Participates in departmental and College affairs and serves on committees
Participates in curriculum development and revision
Assesses the curriculum against program, state and national standards
Supervises field experiences and/or internships
Prepares and submits student information to Department Chairperson
Serves as a resource for faculty members and other program areas
Serves as advisor to funeral service student organization
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
Master's degree required. Associate's degree in Funeral Service Education from an American Board of Funeral Service Education accredited institution. State of Florida funeral service director/embalmer certification or ability to obtain State of Florida funeral service director/embalmer certification within one year of appointment required. Associate in Science degree in Funeral Services Education from an ABFSE (American Board of Funeral Service Education)
Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university
One year experience in embalming
Must be knowledgeable about ABFSE accreditation standards and applicable State and Federal Laws
Must be knowledgeable with OSHA and Bio-Hazardous Waste Regulations
Familiarity with and use of collaborative learning techniques and student-centered methods of instruction
Ability to function well in a technological environment and willing to use technological tools in instruction
Possess excellent communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with students with a wide range of skills
Demonstrated effective use of active learning techniques
Previous curriculum development and recruitment experience a plus
Must possess current knowledge of curriculum and methodology issues in Funeral Services
Ability to work well with students, faculty, staff and the community
Ability to work in a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environment
Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments
Start date for this Faculty position is anticipated on or before the start of Fall Semester 2024
Doctoral stipend awarded in addition to base salary, as applicable
