Overview and Responsibilities
Saint Mary's University of Minnesota is seeking a Faculty member in Education who is eager to contribute to its Lasallian Catholic mission of awakening, nurturing, and empowering learners to ethical lives of service and leadership.
Saint Mary's invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, 3-year term, annually renewable faculty position in elementary education / education foundations beginning in Fall 2024 in the School of Education. The individual in this position will teach an average of 24 credits on the beautiful Winona, MN campus. We seek a scholar-practitioner who can collaborate at the department level and across the University and local community. Applicants with experience in teacher preparation and/or teacher professional development are strongly encouraged to apply, particularly if this experience has focused on elementary education in Catholic school settings.
Saint Mary's faculty are expected to maintain an active scholarly agenda and demonstrate intellectual growth and significant achievement appropriate to their field. All faculty also contribute to the University's LaSallian Catholic mission in alignment with strategic priorities and as it relates to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice, and interdisciplinary programming. All faculty serve the University and community in many ways, such as academic advising, student and community outreach, and participation in departmental and university-wide committees.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a Master's in education or a related field with a focus on elementary education, reading foundations and/or curriculum and instruction. A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education is preferred. The candidate must possess certification or demonstrable background and training in structured literacy, science of reading and evidence-based approaches to reading instruction (LETRS, 95% Group, Orton-Gillingham, IMSE, IMSLEC, or similar). They must have a strong commitment to student-centered teaching and research, a strong background in evidence-based teaching methods, and a demonstrated ability to teach, advise, and mentor candidates who will teach in diverse educational and cultural contexts. The candidate must be prepared to support teacher education students to make learning culturally relevant and connected to pressing issues for humanity. Experience in Catholic education settings is highly desirable.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Master's in Education or a highly related field
Experience in multiple subject teacher education preparation
Experience program development and accreditation
Evidence of at least three years college teaching experience
Evidence of at least three years elementary education teacher of record
Familiarity with Minnesota Standards of Effective Practice for Teacher Education Programs
Preferred Qualifications:
A Ph.D./Ed.D. in Education (ABD will be considered)
Experience teaching in Catholic schools/Catholic education
Record of interdisciplinary and creative research and scholarly production
