Faculty - Construction, Verde Valley

Hiring Range: $63,193.03 - $72,671.97

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Career & Technical Education at the Verde Valley Campus, the incumbent will be responsible for instruction of traditional construction skills as part of the discipline. This encompasses classroom and field training in the various aspects of construction, including workplace expectations and safe work practices, proper use of tools and equipment, measuring and layout, basic carpentry, basic masonry, and installation of floors, walls, roofs, windows, and ceilings.

In addition, the instructor will work with local subcontractors and vendors to facilitate materials purchase and build locations/projects for instruction In addition to a competitive salary this 9 month position, we offer generous time off (including a two week winter break and a one week spring break, 10 sick days annually, up to 3 personal days (from the sick leave bank), retirement, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance at 2 x basic salary and more. Terms of Teaching Assignment Include:

Meet and teach assigned class(es) in accordance with course outlines, including specified textbooks. A course outline is a district-approved document covering such items as course prefix, number, title, description, learning outcomes and content.

Develop and submit to the division office a course syllabus and schedule of assignments based upon the approved college course outline prior to the start of class(es). A syllabus is a learning plan designed by the instructor to inform students about the learning outcomes, assessment requirements, grading criteria, attendance standards, instruction and institution policies and support services.

Promptly submit required rosters, grade reports, evaluations, and academic reports; retain student grade records for one calendar year.

Follow the full-time faculty accepted standards as described in applicable administrative procedures which relate to satisfactory service and conduct becoming a faculty member.

Attend required instructional related meetings such as: orientation meetings; department or division meetings; other meetings as required.

Attend meetings and workshops as may be necessary to obtain or renew certification or essential licensure requirements.

Document the completion of three (3) hours per semester of professional development activities related to the discipline area and student learning.

Other related duties as assigned.

Besides traditional class structuring, the College is also attempting to meet the varying needs of our students by offering weekend, year-round, and compressed courses of instruction and services. Since service to our students is our highest priority, instructors can expect to participate in innovative methods and assignments may be multi-campus with the possibility of interactive, online, day, evening and/or weekend classes.

Limited Term Faculty are appointed to term assignments of one year or less and will receive evaluation and assessment of performance by their supervisors at the end of the assignment period.

Minimum Expectations & Requirements

Credentialing Requirements for Faculty Teaching Coursework in Occupational Terminal Degree Programs:

Degree in discipline (Associate's degree or higher) AND 5 years or 5,000 hours of documented experience recent with the discipline; AND/OR

Professional Licensure/Specialized certificate(s) AND/OR 5 years or 5,000 hours of documented and recent work experience.

Degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution.

Construction Building Technology (CBT):

5 years recent documented experience in the carpentry/construction industry or Associate's Degree in Carpentry or Construction Management.

Available to teach day, evening, weekend, and/or summer classes as assigned.

Strong commitment to working with students and other trades programs.

Excellent communication and people skills.

Preferred Skills & Abilities

Bachelor's Degree in Construction.

Contractor's License.

NCCER Certification

Recent hands-on construction experience.

Some management and supervisory experience.

Professional experience in a community college/higher education work environment.

Computer competency skills needed to perform instruction, grading, email communication, assembly of curricula and syllabi, assignments, tests, and other computer operations as necessary.

Experience with online learning systems such as Canvas or Blackboard.
