General Position Summary:

Prepares and paints production machinery following repair/maintenance schedule. Prepares and paints facility. Prepares and paints safety items. Keep a running inventory of paint and supplies.

Primary Responsibilities:
Mask (covers) equipment, windows, rail car parts, paints facility, removes all prep work, replace worn out lines and guns, and sweeps up painting

Specific Job Skills:

  • Familiar with spray gun, air line (25-50'), spray tips, mill gauge, respirator.

  • Ability to work in environment of 0-100 degrees in all weather conditions with noise, paint fumes, some hazardous materials and waste.

  • Locks out machinery to be painted.

  • Clears area of debris to remove tripping hazards.

  • Cleans machinery with solvents, brush, scrapper, and rags.

  • Masks machinery to protect unpainted areas and essential nameplate information.

  • Paints machinery using rollers, brushes and/or spray gun.

  • Paints the facility using rollers, brushes, and/or spray gun

  • Look for safety or painting jobs.

  • Ordering parts and supplies.

  • Keep running inventory of paint and supplies.

  • Keep painting equipment clean and in good running order.

  • Be able to coordinate painting jobs with other departments.

  • Bid and complete assigned jobs in a timely and professional manner.

  • Must obtain lockout tag out certification after employment

  • Must obtain confined space training after employment

  • Must obtain fall protection and Arial man lift certification after employment.
    Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Must pass written and practical paint test

  • At least two years of painting experience required

  • Spraying experience required.

  • Lift, carry, push and or pull 1- 50 lbs for 1 -- 3 hours per day

  • Bend, twist, kneel, walk, climb and reach for 1 -- 6 hours per day

  • Sit, stand and walk for 1 -- 8 hours per day

  • Able to hold weight of gun in hand for extended period of time

  • Must be able to work all shifts

This position is 210 days per school year (approximately August 15 - June 15), 8 hours per day. REPORTS TO: Supervisor, Facility Services POSITION PURPOSE: Contributes to the appearance and operations of the school or other district facilities by cleaning and maintaining assigned buildings, and performing maintenance and operations duties. NATURE & SCOPE: This position is subject to board policies, administrative rules and procedures, department regulations and applicable State and Federal statutes. This position carries no administrative authority or responsibility. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Positions assigned to the Custodian I classification are distinguished from the Custodian II classification by job duties which may include cleaning floors, restrooms, or windows; replacing lights and doing light maintenance; moving supplies and setting up chairs; and operating building security, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: * Cleans lavatories, including toilets and sinks, washes mirrors, walls and dispensers to ensure proper sanitary conditions and good appearance. Checks and fills towel, soap, and sanitary napkin dispensers. * Empties and cleans wastebaskets and disposes of waste. * Sweeps, vacuums, mops, buffs and waxes tile floors, carpets and walkways. * Washes windows and glass throughout the facility to assure good appearance and visibility. * Cleans assigned classroom desks, sinks and countertops according to established procedures. * Washes, vacuums, and dusts furniture, drinking fountains, window sills, fixtures, baseboards, chalkboards and the like. * Operates, monitors and reports irregularities in the operation of security, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. * Secures building according to building policy at close of shift. * Replaces light bulbs and fluorescent tubes as needed. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: * Assists with room setups and moves furniture, equipment, etc. as needed. * Provides assistance to other custodians and school staff, as assigned. * Performs other related duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed primarily within an office building or school building. The work involves physical ability in cleaning and occasional lifting of objects in excess of 60 lbs. Employees are exposed to cleaning chemicals and light machines such as vacuum cleaners. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: * Knowledge of effective cleaning practices, procedures and equipment * Ability to communicate effectively with other employees and students using tact, courtesy and good judgment. * Ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail to meet deadlines. * Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and procedures. * Ability to operate standard cleaning equipment such as vacuums and hand cleaning tools. * Ability to physically perform assigned duties. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School diploma, or G.E.D., and six months of general building cleaning experience; or any combination of education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job.
