Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

Campus Recreation provides a variety of programs and services to meet the recreation/fitness/wellness needs of the university community. Campus Recreation maintains several facilities around campus to help students stay active. In addition to the Rams Head Recreation Center and the Student Recreation Center, there is an indoor and outdoor pool, a number of outdoor courts for tennis, basketball, volleyball and paddle tennis, and lighted fields for sport club practices/matches and team intramural sports. Students have about 50 sport clubs and more than 40 intramural sports for men's, women's, and co-rec teams. Campus Recreation has a unique dual reporting structure in which it reports to both Student Affairs and the Department of Exercise and Sport Science via the Campus Recreation.

Position Summary

The Facility and Operations Intern prioritizes the student employment experience, working purposefully to ensure their ability to provide a great experience for our patrons. The Facility and Operations Intern leads the following components of the student employment experience: operations, recruitment and selection, on-boarding, leadership development, assessment, and culture enhancement.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate student employee hiring and training process; including new employee onboarding and shadowing process

  • Schedule student employees for operations and events in all Recreation facilities

  • Teach at least 2 CPR/AED and First Aid certification courses per year during 2024-2025 academic year upon completion of the Instructor's Course

  • Create and implement in-service training for entry-level staff that align with departmental and divisional outcomes

  • Attend Campus Recreation and Facility Operations professional staff meetings

  • Utilize professional development opportunities by attending Student Affairs, NoCRSA, NIRSA Regional or National conferences and events

  • Lead semester evaluation process for student employees

  • Assist with the Student Org Lottery Facility Reservation process

  • Assist with event scheduling, planning, and coverage, as needed

  • Departmental representative at denoted marquee events; Ex. Dance Marathon, Holi Moli

  • Coordinate post-event assessment with Campus Recreation staff and event organizers

  • Assist with oversight of Member Services Assistants in SRC Business Office

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree

  • First Aid, CPR and AED Certification through the American Red Cross, or the ability to obtain within 1 month from date of hire.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills

  • Familiarity with WhenToWork and Fusion

  • Ability to work with diverse patrons and staff

  • Flexible schedule that permits evening and weekend facility supervision

  • Proven ability to prioritize Campus Recreation above other extracurricular responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • At least 1 year of experience in Recreation Management/Student Leadership
