Position Overview: The Facility Manager plays a pivotal role in driving operational excellence by overseeing and optimizing the efficiency of assigned recycling operations.
Reporting directly to the District Manager, General Manager, or Regional Operations Manager, the Facility Managerw is responsible for the effective management of facility operations, including safety, environmental compliance, quality control, inventory management, and employee performance. This role also focuses on continuous improvement and ensures production and maintenance goals are met while maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations. The Facility Manager operates with a high level of autonomy, working to achieve excellence across all areas of facility management.
The position prioritizes safety, efficiency, and profitability by reducing errors, accidents, and operational inefficiencies. Key Responsibilities: Environmental and Health & Safety (H&S): Support facility-wide H&S initiatives in collaboration with regional safety personnel.
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company policies by working with the Environmental Manager. Monitor and enforce H&S programs and procedures within the facility. Investigate incidents and accidents, ensuring corrective action plans are implemented in line with company policies.
Report and address any H&S or environmental compliance issues across all assigned locations, collaborating with relevant stakeholders as needed. Maintain a safe working environment for all employees, visitors, and customers. Operational Performance & Best Practices:
Oversee all departments' daily operations and maintenance activities. Ensure production targets are met consistently, working with the General Manager and Commercial teams to forecast monthly production goals. Lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize operational efficiency.
Review and refine maintenance procedures, ensuring accurate recordkeeping for all production equipment. Analyze and validate operational data to ensure accuracy and identify areas for improvement. Evaluate the effectiveness of transportation providers and other subcontractors.
Equipment & Maintenance: Monitor and manage facility equipment needs and availability to support operational goals. Ensure that equipment is maintained in optimal working condition to minimize downtime.
Inventory & Quality Control: Maintain communication with commercial and transportation teams to ensure material quotas are met and that materials are transferred or shipped promptly. Oversee inventory management, ensuring accurate tracking and compliance with internal controls and financial reporting requirements.
Address any issues with off-grade or off-spec materials before shipment to prevent quality concerns, complaints, and claims. Ensure all storage of finished goods adheres to established internal controls. Implement and manage a documented Quality Control program in coordination with Commercial and Sales teams, aligning with internal and customer specifications.
Budgeting & Forecasting: Operate facilities within established operating and capital expenditure budgets. Prepare recommendations for capital expenditures, considering equipment condition, environmental needs, and operational requirements.
Plan for future business growth and ensure facility resources are aligned with operational goals. Administrative Management: Oversee staffing levels to ensure they are cost-effective and competitive within the market.
Ensure compliance with HR policies and applicable labor agreements for both exempt and hourly employees. Review and evaluate the performance of direct reports, providing feedback and support as needed. Participate in the recruitment and hiring process for management and production staff.
Collaborate with HR to develop and maintain accurate job descriptions. Special Projects: Lead and contribute to special projects and initiatives as assigned.
