Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

Facilities Operations has the responsibility of providing a wide range of services to all administrative departments, student programs, and all academic schools and departments. Services include all aspects of corrective and preventive maintenance, operations, grounds maintenance, housekeeping, utility infrastructure maintenance and operations, business operations, safety, regulatory compliance, project management, and renovations. These duties are conducted for a campus consisting of over 100 buildings totaling 6 million gross square feet on over 275 acres.
Position Summary
Assist in the maintenance and operation of the central steam distribution system, repair/replace existing insulated items, and insulate new work too. Will also assist in the repair of steam and condensate piping systems including but not limited to campus-wide steam manholes.
Minimum Qualifications
HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENCY; OR DEMONSTRATED POSSESSION OF THE COMPETENCIES NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE WORK. OPTIONAL GUIDELINES: EXPERIENCE IN THE TRADE AREAS RELATED TO THE AREA OF ASSIGNMENT MAY BE SUBSTITUTED ON A YEAR-FOR-YEAR BASIS.
Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates Preferred Qualifications
3-5 years experience with insulating piping systems; 3-5 years in mechanical maintenance related to steam systems; Desired completion of 40-hour asbestos training; Confined space training

Repair or replace insulation on pipes, valves, and fittings on various equipment throughout UNCG campus.
Order supplies and maintains an inventory of insulation replacement parts and supplies.
Perform routine inspections and repairs on associated systems.
Inspect steam manholes and steam tunnels for faulty insulation and or leaking equipment.

Submit labor and material reports to the supervisor daily.
Ensure sufficient materials are on hand for the completion of the project.
Ensure the assigned vehicle is available for servicing and ready for use.
