Join MMPA as a Facility Electrician, responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of electrical systems within our milk processing facility. As a crucial team member, you'll play a vital role in maintaining and repairing electrical equipment to minimize downtime, enhance productivity, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Who We Are: The Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA), established in 1916, is a dairy farmer-owned and operated milk marketing cooperative and dairy processor. As the 10th largest dairy cooperative in the U.S., MMPA serves dairy farmers throughout Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Indiana. MMPA operates two SQF Level 3 dairy ingredient plants in Michigan, along with Middlebury Cheese Company and Superior Dairy in Canton, OH. Our product range includes fluid milk, cheese, ultra-filtered milk, ice cream, butter, nonfat dry milk, cream, and condensed skim milk.

Key Responsibilities:

Production Equipment Repair:

  • Motor testing, maintenance, and repair.

  • Conduit piping installation and repair.

  • Control valve calibration, testing, maintenance, and repair.

  • Plant instrumentation calibration, testing, maintenance, and repair.

  • Variable speed drive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.

  • Control system troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair.

Production Utility Systems Repair:

  • Steam electrical control system troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair.

  • Compressed air control system troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair.

  • Well, Process, and Soft Water control system troubleshooting, maintenance, repair.

  • Refrigeration control system troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair.

  • Chemical control system troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair.

Plant Electrical System Repair:

  • Safe use of electrical test equipment for troubleshooting and monitoring of plant electrical systems.

  • Proper use of electrical personal protective equipment, such as gloves, grounding straps, etc.

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Must possess and maintain a current State of Michigan Journeyman Electrician license or Master Electrician.

  • Willingness to attend continuous training and improvement courses.

  • Awareness of and compliance with HACCP, USDA, FDA, SQF, MDA, GMP, and Food Safety Standards.

  • Ability to train new operators and perform other assigned duties.

Additional Requirements:

  • Potential exposure to industrial cleaning and water treatment chemicals, permit-required confined spaces, and ammonia and fuel gases.

  • Ability to work any shift, weekends, or holidays (plants operate 24/7).

  • Must pass a drug screen and background check.

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.

  • Compliance with good manufacturing practice regulations.

  • Ability to read and understand standard operating procedures.

  • Prior experience in manufacturing or dairy preferred.

Physical Requirements and Essential Functions:

  • Walking distance up to 1000 feet.

  • Climbing stairs or ladders up to 100 feet above grade.

  • Bending, twisting, and standing for periods of up to 5 minutes collecting data.

  • Walking on wet floors and/or catwalks, lifting, carrying, and/or pulling up to 80 pounds.

Shift: 1st / Full-time Pay: $33.00 p/h + stipend (DOE)
