Description

The Earth and Environmental Systems Institute at Penn State is seeking a Facility Director for the Laboratory for Isotopes and Metals in the Environment (LIME). The successful candidate will collaborate closely with faculty to oversee facilities that include instrumentation (ICPAES, ICPMS, MCICPMS, TIMS and laser) while maintaining data quality and control; managing shared online resources; training users (especially students); managing access to LIME facilities; and billing for work completed; manage LIME staff, including initiation of hiring procedures; oversee the budget, including setting fee structures and seed grants; managing and developing projects, including providing analytical data and scientific consulting for projects; and strategizing to expand user base; and advance the long-term development of LIME, including development of a LIME research philosophy and vision for future while working with invested faculty to grow laboratory infrastructure. This position requires a Master's degree or higher in a science related field.

The candidate must be able to multi-task while following standard operating procedures and quality assurance/quality control protocols. The candidate must have experience working with analytical instrumentation and must possess good organizational skills and the ability to work well with faculty and students. The candidate must also possess strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, excellent knowledge of laboratory settings, and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of renewal.
