The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation, Northern Recreation and Leisure Services Division is seeking a Facility Director.

The Facility Director is responsible for the day to day operations and management of the facility. Duties include: supervising full time and part time program staff as well as overseeing maintenance, security and improvements of the facility and its equipment; facility rental; all marketing and public relations for facilities programs; expenditures and revenues, cash handling and budgeting; and establishing operating procedures.

Please note that the above salary range represents earning potential. The budgeted annual salary range for this position is $61,730- $85,528.

Examples of Important Duties

Facility Management:

  • Manage community center. Establish, recommends and monitor operating procedures (i.e. hours, building maintenance and repairs).

  • Respond to questions, complaints, and inquiries from patrons

  • Creates a comprehensive programming plan of classes, activities and special events to serve the area. This includes creating, developing, implementing, marketing, and evaluating.

  • Meet with citizens, community groups, schools and associations within service area.

  • Review, approve, and prepare rental requests/agreements.

Personnel Management:

  • Supervise career, intermittent, volunteer, and contracted employees.

  • Recruit, interview, select, and train intermittent staff for the community center and programs

  • Complete, at minimum, an annual performance evaluation for intermittent and career (if applicable) staff

  • Counsel and discipline employees as needed

  • Plan, schedule, and assign work. Approve timecards and leave request for intermittent and career staff.

Fiscal Management:

  • Monitor and track facility revenues and expenditures within approved budget for the community center assigned.

  • Serve as petty cash fund custodian (if applicable)

  • Initiates purchase card request, purchase requisitions, and check request for the purchase of equipment and supplies for facility operations and program needs

  • Manage and maintain cash reports and asset inventory

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation, Facility Management, Recreation Management, Education, Business Administration, Physical Education, Communication, Leisure Services, or any related field.

  • Two (2) years of responsible professional experience working in a facility related to parks, recreation, leisure services, or area of required specialty (e.g., arts, performing arts, equestrian, tennis, aquatics, gymnastics, ice rinks); including one (1) year as a facility manager, program coordinator or supervisor.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total six (6) years.

  • Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of the position.

  • Contingent upon area of assignment, some positions in this class may require valid: (a) operating license (e.g., county pool operator, childcare license) as appropriate; (b) First Aid, CPR, automated external defibrillator (AED) certifications; or (c) certifications as related to assignment (e.g., Lifeguard Instruction, Fundamentals of Gymnastics).

  • Pass Commission medical exam.
