UW SYSTEM OFFICIAL TITLE: Facilities Technician II

Essential Job Functions

This Facilities Technician position works under supervision of the Buildings and Grounds Manager for the Manitowoc and Sheboygan Campuses. The Facilities Technician performs general maintenance and repair to facilities, grounds, and equipment for the UW-Green Bay, Manitowoc Campus. This work includes inspection, maintaining, and repairs basic of equipment and facilities to ensure property meets established standards and to prevent further damage. Assists with operational maintenance as needed.

In addition, this position will perform preventative maintenance to building structures, including cosmetic and/or decorative improvements. This position will provide professional advice with materials and time required to complete various maintenance issues around the campus as assigned.

This position will be the second responder to afterhours emergency calls regarding fire alarms, lockouts, plumbing emergencies, and power outages, or other issues requiring immediate response to campus.

What You'll Do

  • Inspect, Maintain, and Repair Interior and Exterior Components of the Campus Buildings.

  • Inspect, Maintain and Repair Campus Grounds and Equipment.

  • Utilizes equipment to repair and maintain standard machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation.

  • Performs routine PM facility inspections and monitors cleanliness.

  • Provide Custodial Support.

  • Emergency response and systems support.

  • Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures.

  • Receives, inspects, inventories, and distributes deliveries to appropriate entities under general supervision.

  • Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent at time of application

  • 2 years work experience in building trades or commercial/industrial maintenance area

  • Experience with small engines and engines in commercial grounds equipment

  • Knowledge of mechanical and building repairs

  • Thorough knowledge of tools, equipment, and safety methods used in the performance of job

  • Knowledge and ability to learn and use Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) software

  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree or 5 years work experience in building trades or commercial/industrial maintenance area

  • Proficient in all aspects of the maintenance fields

  • Ability to read product labels, warning signs, manuals, computer screens, plans, specifications, shop drawings and to distinguish, read, and comprehend SDS (Safety Data Sheets), OSHA regulations and instructions

  • Ability to work effectively and productively (given objectives, priorities, constraints, and resources) with general supervision

  • Knowledge and ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, Administrative Rules, etc. and to keep the knowledge and ability current

  • Ability to understand detailed, complex, and technical policies, procedures, regulations, product information or instructions obtained in print or orally

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Physical strength and stamina to perform required work including being able to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, land work on feet for long periods of time

  • Physical ability to push, pull, grasp, carry and/or lift 50 pounds horizontally or vertically on an occasional basis

  • Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit on a sustained basis, occasionally, each day, etc. for an eight-hour shift

  • Ability to climb and work at considerable heights and/or in confined spaces under adverse conditions

Conditions of Appointment

Position is a full-time University Staff appointment. The work hours for this position will be 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

A criminal conviction investigation and pre-work screen examination will be conducted on the finalist(s). A six-month probationary period is required for this position. In compliance with the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act, the University does not discriminate on the basis of arrest or conviction record.

Compensation and Benefits

SALARY INFORMATION

Minimum hourly wage of $19.00.

This position will earn an additional $0.80 per hour for all weekend hours worked, as well as for all hours worked between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

This position is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

BENEFIT DETAILS

The UW System provides an excellent benefits package to meet the diverse needs of its employees. This includes several health insurance options, with annual deductibles as low as $250/individual and $500/family. Our benefits package also includes dental, vision, several life insurance options, AD&D and Accident insurance and Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts. We participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), where employer contributions begin immediately and employees are fully vested after 5 years of service. The UW System also provides supplemental retirement savings programs including a 403(b) and Deferred Compensation.

In addition, employees receive several types of paid leave benefits, which are prorated for employees working less than 100%. This includes 9 legal holidays, 36 hours of personal holiday and between 96-130 hours of sick leave annually. Employees earn 13-27 days of vacation each year, depending on years of service and employment type.
