Position Summary

The Operations & Facilities Management Department at Washington University School of Medicine is committed to delivering a comprehensive range of services to support the medical campus.

We oversee maintenance and operations for 65 buildings, covering more than 10.1 million gross square feet of space. This includes the 11-story, 609,000-square-foot neuroscience research building, which houses one of the world's highest concentrations of neuroscientists. Our responsibilities include operational and administrative support, strategic planning, and project management.

Furthermore, as the School of Medicine continues to expand its presence both on and off campus in areas such as teaching, clinical care, and research, our team remains instrumental in ensuring the seamless delivery of clinical care, advancing research initiatives, and facilitating educational endeavors.

The position is responsible for performing general maintenance to various building systems and supporting Facilities Maintenance Technicians at the School of Medicine.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs repairs to all lighting systems, including exit lights, emergency lights, and exterior lighting systems.

  • Manages lighting inventory and maintains compliance with EHS regulations regarding proper storage and disposal.

  • Performs minor repairs and PMs as requested by the supervisor.

  • Performs general repairs to all plumbing systems, including faucets, urinals, toilets, and toilet seats.

  • Using a plunger or toilet auger, clear minor drain blockages from sinks, floor drains, drinking fountains, and toilets.

  • Performs removal and installation of damaged or missing ceiling tiles.

  • Performs bi-annual testing on all fume hoods, adjust airflow as needed, calibrate the monitor, and/or coordinate repairs.

  • Assists Facilities Maintenance Technicians with larger projects when necessary.

  • Communicates effectively through email and electronic work order system.

  • Cleans equipment as needed during repairs. Checks equipment storage areas and reports conditions to supervisor.

  • Performs tasks outside of job description in support of the Department and the School's mission.

  • Maintains effective communication with other maintenance staff.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A technical certificate or degree.

  • Demonstrates professionalism, respect for colleagues and stakeholders, unwavering integrity in all actions, dedicated pursuit of excellence, and a track record of consistent dedication to achieving organizational goals.

  • Good mechanical aptitude.

  • Ability to lift and carry tools and materials weighing in excess of 50 pounds and be able to raise and carry with assistance items weighing 200 pounds.

  • The position requires considerable climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching to gain access to lights and equipment.

  • Good depth perception, field of vision, and color vision are needed for color-coded wiring.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.

  • Two years of experience in general maintenance or a skilled trade function or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience.

  • Must obtain and maintain a Missouri Class E or Illinois Class D Driver's license within 30 days of hire.

G08-H

Salary Range

$21.17 - $32.85 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
