Facilities Technician


This position is responsible for the monitoring of electrical, mechanical, and HVAC equipment within the facility: Mechanical equipment includes plumbing CRAC units, air handlers and associated systems. Additional support equipment is included in the-scope of the role which includes fire suppression systems, building automation systems, stand-by diesel generator and associate fuel system.

This position will assist with the receipt, inspection, documentation, sorting and storage of Laboratory tests and Whole Blood Processing Center Supplies.



  • Maintains, operates, and troubleshoots mission-critical data center facility equipment, including electrical support equipment, such as stand-by diesel generators, three (3) phase electrical systems that include, but are not limited to, switchgear, EP.S (UPS)-, and wet cell battery bank. This equipment supports mission-critical servers and must maintain better than 99.9 % uptime.

  • Interacts internally on a daily basis with data center management and staff.


  • Receive, store and, distribute office, laboratory, and manufacturing supplies.

  • Perform duties in carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, heating/cooling, ventilation, roofing, and security.

  • lnspects building and equipment for needed repair/maintenance. Reports all findings to the Facility Supervisor for resolution.

  • Inspects facility grounds ensuring proper care and maintenance. Reports all findings to the Facility Supervisor for resolution.

  • Routinely operates as the after-hours on-call Facility Technician for the data center and facility mechanical systems, including responding to generaI facility and data center issues.

  • Reports all findings and any necessary corrective and/or preventive action to the Facility Supervisor.

  • Performs all other duties as may be required / assigned.


  • Responds to emergency maintenance requests; troubleshoots issues to determine cause and solution and reports all findings to the Facility Supervisor.

  • Interacts externally with vendors and contractors as assigned.


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

  • Experience Working with outside vendors and Contractors.

  • Must be "hands-on" and assist in completing building maintenance work.

  • Experience in maintenance of commercial HVAC and electrical systems, maintaining facility and mechanical systems associated with a data center is desired.

  • Position requires ability to review, follow and comply with Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Must have excellent organization and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to analyze situations and respond in a timely manner

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within Interstate Blood Bank, Inc. and provide excellent customer service.



  • Typical work environment with moderate noise level.

  • Ability to work with toxic or caustic chemicals 0-25% of the time

  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions (may be required to shovel or salt as necessary).Exposure to extreme heat or cold 25-50% of the time.

  • Ability-to read and understand documents, such a safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, procedure manuals, correspondence.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to speak and present information in small groups of customers, suppliers or employees of the company.

  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 1O's and 1OO's. Ability to perform these operations using units of US dollars, weight measurement, volume, and distance.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to use ladders and work overhead while on a ladder.

Travel short distances daily.

  • Daily attendance is required.
