Job Summary:

The Wisconsin Union is looking for an experienced maintenance technician to join our facilities team at the Fluno Center. The Fluno Center is a full service hotel and conference center.

This position will work with other technicians, mechanics, and trades staff to keep our buildings and grounds beautiful and functioning perfectly. The successful person in this position will be able to work well as part of a team but will also have the experience necessary to independently problem solve mechanical and maintenance issues. Responsibilities:

Inspects, maintains, and repairs specialized equipment and facilities to ensure property meets established standards and to prevent further damage. Assists with construction, design and operational maintenance as needed.

  • 35% Utilizes specialized equipment to repair and maintain complex machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation
  • 30% Performs routine and non-routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness
  • 20% Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures
  • 5% Receives, inspects, inventories, and distributes deliveries independently to appropriate entities
  • 10% Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed

  • Experience working in a building maintenance, mechanical repairing, or similar setting.

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail

License/Certification:

Required

Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards

Work Schedule:

Core hours are Sunday 8:00am-4:30pm (start time is flexible), Monday thru Thursday 10:30am-7pm.

Based on operation needs, will need to shift their schedule and duties.

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $23.15 HOURLY

Depending on Qualifications

This position is eligible for an additional $2.50/hr on night shifts (hours worked between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.) and an

$0.80/hr on weekend shifts.

Additional Information:

The Wisconsin Union operates from several buildings on the UW-Madison campus including Memorial Union, Union South, Fluno Center, Pyle Center, University Club, Red Gym, and the Student Activity Center. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by over thirty food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $60 million dollars.

Student Affairs is led by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Our staff is dedicated to serving students and to helping them succeed in and out of the classroom in areas including health and well-being, identity and inclusion, leadership and engagement, and student advocacy.
