JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Maintenance and Operations department at Penn State Behrend is seeking applicants to fill the position of Custodial Supervisor for our third shift operations. Reporting to the Supervisor of Physical Plant Maintenance, the Custodial Supervisor is responsible for the hiring, supervision, administration and training of our technical service employees to ensure quality procedures are followed.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Overseeing and reviewing work completed by all janitorial staff for quality

  • Creating a work schedule to meet campus conditions and janitorial needs based on the academic calendar

  • Inspecting all janitorial equipment on a monthly basis to ensure proper upkeep

  • Maintenance of the custodial supply inventory including maintaining the budget and ordering necessary supplies and parts for equipment

  • Inspecting buildings and reporting issues related to maintenance, damage, theft, disturbance, etc.

  • Interview, hire, train, and evaluate technical service employees

This position will also be responsible for performance evaluations for the assigned technical service crew, including regular feedback sessions, as well as administration of the Union/University procedures and policies. The third shift supervisor is responsible for identifying and addressing potential disciplinary issues for discussion with the Supervisor of Physical Plant Maintenance and Human Resources, and will be expected to participate in the grievance process.

The third shift supervisor is responsible for approximately 35 employees across the 31 buildings of Penn State Behrend, encompassing 850 acres and 850,000 square feet of space. This position typically works 3rd shift Sunday through Thursday, but must be available at other times as work demands dictate.

The typical requirements for this position include an Associate's Degree or higher plus 4 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency in Microsoft office tools, including the use of e-mail is highly desired.

Must have proven ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks and provide excellent customer service. The successful candidate will have demonstrated supervisory experience, be capable of self-management, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, judgement, and problem solving with the ability to work effectively with a diverse team. Desired qualifications include a comprehensive knowledge of janitorial methods and processes. The janitorial supervisor will require IICRC certification within two years of hire.

This position requires you operate a motor vehicle as part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to a standard background check.
