Job Description

The Facility and Event Services Technician will ensure the logistics of all campus events, vendor support, food safety and campus space usage are scheduled and arraigned within the regular daily operations of campus as directed by the department management.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • To participate in weekly planning meetings for upcoming events.

  • Assist with approving work in conjunction with Events, Hospitality, and Facility Support staff for planning and organization.

  • Assist, organize, and timeline the Events, Hospitality, Facility Support and if needed FPO staff in the execution of large events.

  • Update campus drawings in MS Visio for classroom and event space usage.

  • Update campus drawings in MS Visio for office personnel locations.

  • Participate in FPO safety training program.

  • Support the Events and Facilities Staff in the execution of all campus related requests.

  • Supervise the part-time Facility Services Tech Assistant as needed.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Schedule all campus moves with the requesting staff member(s) as necessary.

  • Relocate campus furniture as directed to the new location and reinstall.

  • Maintain all campus fixtures (non-maintenance items) for ergonomic and safety standards.

  • Verify that all staff-related workstations are in compliance with ergonomic and safety standards.

  • Maintain and inventory all campus furniture in storage and for campus standard requirements.

  • Cycle old furniture or unwanted furniture to be put in storage, sold or given away.

  • Daily check systems for work orders, which could include but not limited to installing marker boards, keyboards, pictures, and bulletin boards as requested.

  • Assist in making sure that all daily campus events requirements are met, closed out and rearranged prior to the next scheduled events.

  • Assist with campus facility issues and campus space reassignments for daily event use and any needed health related restrictions.

  • Assist Maintenance operations & Custodial operations with emergency response.

  • Lead and participate in FPO safety training.

  • Trained in food handlers' certificate program.

  • Assist Director of department with campus and event related needs as requested.

  • Must be able to prioritize multiple event requests and their time constraints on a monthly and quarterly basis.

  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and people with respect.

  • Must be flexible to work before and after regular business hours when needed.

  • Must be flexible to handle last minute changes and personnel requests during events.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Education and Experience:

  • At least two years related experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and /or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.

  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount and kind of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.

  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

  • Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.

  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.

  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.

  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.

  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.

  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.

  • Fingering: Picking, pinching, tying or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arms as in handling.

  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

  • Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

  • Repetitive Motions: Substantial movement (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

  • Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and /or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Machine Operators (without inspection), mechanics, skilled trades people: This is a minimum standard for use with those whose work deals with machines such as lathes, drill presses. Power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach. (If the machine operator also inspects, use the above standard that requires more acuity.) Also, mechanics and skilled trades people and those who do work of a non-repetitive nature such as carpenter, technicians, service people, plumbers, painter, mechanics, etc.

  • The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

  • The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions: No effective protection from weather.

  • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occurs inside and outside.

  • The worker is subject to extreme cold: Temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour.

  • The worker is subject to extreme heat: Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.

  • The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.

  • The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
