Additional responsibilities include snow/ice removal, campus moves, deliveries, and event setups.
Supervise and assist fleet/ grounds equipment maintenance.
The position promotes all work in a safe manner using personal protective equipment (PPE). Essential FunctionsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Coordinates, schedules, and participates in the day to day work activities (mowing, weed control, landscape maintenance, snow removal, roadway/sidewalk maintenance and fleet maintenance) of the groundskeepers, garage mechanics, and summer help.Leads and trains facilities services crew and fleet mechanic.Plan and schedule work requests.Manage grounds and fleet inventories.Learn and work with the automated work order system.Assist Executive Director of Facilities Planning and Management with budget planning as it pertains to grounds maintenance and equipment.Assist Executive Director of Facilities Planning and Management with facilities services performance reviews.Oversee and participate in the use and application of fertilizer and pesticides.Provide recommendations for corrective action on areas that need improvement
Performs medium and heavy manual labor.Assists with snow and ice removal to provide safe ice-free walkways and roadway system for the campus community.Supports deliveries, event setups and furniture moves.Conduct schedule exterior grounds and property inspections
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and ExperiencesHigh School diploma or equivalent.A minimum of three years supervisory experience with a minimum of two years experience in horticulture, grounds maintenance, snow removal or related field.Maintain a valid Illinois drivers license.Must successfully acquire required CDL license.Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesWorking knowledge of the methods and equipment used in grounds care and maintenance work.Working knowledge of the methods of planting, cultivating and care of trees, shrubs, flowers, and turf grass.Ability to be on call
Ability to occasionally work extended hours and weekends
Possess strong leadership and communication (verbal and written) skills
Ability to provide effective supervision of work force
Ability to perform daily physical labor in the field and lift a minimum of 50 pounds.Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices and procedures
Demonstrated customer service and strong organizational skills
Ability to effectively multi-tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
Must be able to operate all grounds equipment and tools
Ability to maintain confidentiality Work EnvironmentOne must be capable of doing physically strenuous labor for long hours, occasionally in uncomfortable heat and cold conditions.
