Role

Applied Materials expects over the next five years to have the most exciting and active project pipeline in its history. The Global Workplace and Infrastructure (GWI) team at Applied Materials is responsible for all facilities, from acquisition through operation to disposition.

The Sr. Manager of Technical Infrastructure will oversee newly established projects within Arizona, taking responsibility for all aspects of technical facilities requirements for new labs, fabs and other related development projects. Including: helping to build and lead a central team of resources that provide a range of support critical for efficient, consistent, and successful project delivery.

Project types include advanced semiconductor R&D labs, large scale manufacturing, logistics infrastructure, and offices. The position is based in the greater Phoenix Arizona area and will report to the Director, Technical Infrastructure (Santa Clara).

The Technical Infrastructure team is accountable for lab space and system planning, tool install planning, design and construction, and lab facility operations.

This role will manage a small team of direct reports and scale as the business needs dictate. As a regionally organized function, the GWI team has resources at many of our locations globally. While those regional teams are primarily accountable for the entire life-cycle of their facilities (lease/buy, design, construct, and operate), the experience and bandwidth available does not always align to the project complexity or peak workloads that the construction projects demand.

The Arizona based Technical Infrastructure team will be responsible to collaborate across the corporate resources available as well as compliment the local teams to complete the experience and bandwidth needed for a particular project's success.

This leader will be responsible for establishing highly credible and effective partnerships with multiple internal business groups for whom the labs support. Additionally, developing and optimizing and high-performing supply base to support all aspects of the function will be critical for success.

Key Responsibilities

Sr. Manager of Technical Infrastructure will:

For the region serve as the senior leader with whom multiple Applied Materials business units collaborate to develop and execute Applied Materials' technical space and operation strategy, with the end goal of achieving key business objectives that are in line with the company and segment/functional strategy and objectives.

Responsible to safely plan, design, construct, operate and maintain advanced semiconductor R&D lab facilities and infrastructure in Arizona.

Designs, develops, and implements organizational policies and procedures relevant to the facilities department. Effectively oversees the coordination of building space allocation and layout, facilities expansion, and related communications.

Oversee all semiconductor process tool install design, permitting and construction in the lab facilities and ensures function strict compliance to permitting requirements and building codes.

Develop and track key performance metrics that align with both Infrastructure Team and Business Unit objectives.

Support regional teams to provide clear and frequent project updates to internal stakeholders on scope, schedule, budget, and risks.

Monitor project performance through a regular project review rhythm to enable near real-time knowledge of project status, risks, and help needed.

Ensure that the prescribed quality and financial control measures are implemented and maintained throughout the life of the project.

Develop and secure support for annual Capital and Operating Expense plans.

Hire and lead a high performing technical facilities organization.

Help in the establishment of a global platform from which all R&D Lab Infrastructure teams globally can leverage, including methods and process, resources and expertise, contracting methodologies and performance improvement.

The Ideal Candidate will have the Following:

Experience in the semiconductor or similarly technically complex industry.

Experience with highly technical facility planning, design, build and operations.

Strong executive presence with an ability to communicate with and effectively influence senior leaders.

Passion to challenge the status quo in pursuit of material performance improvements.

Experience selecting, developing and managing infrastructure-related service providers.

Experience leading technically complex and challenging organizations.

Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering discipline or equivalent.

U.S. Salary Range:

$148,000.00 - $203,500.00

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
