POSITION: Facilities Officer

LOCATION: Administrative and Auxiliary Services

SALARY: Administrator Salary Schedule

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months

JOB GOAL: Performs a variety of supervisory and administrative tasks in providing day-to-day leadership to facility services. Ensuring our schools are clean and operational daily.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • At least five (5) or more years of experience in working with managing a large facility in charge of maintenance and operations.

  • A degree in related field preferred.

  • Strong organizational skills and overall knowledge of all aspects of the system. Strong collaboration, planning and communication skills.

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of school system operations.

  • Considerable knowledge of the ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional organizations and/or federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.

  • Thorough knowledge of the school system's organization and operational policies and procedures.

  • Experience in preparing proposals, budgeting, and money management.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills utilizing tact and diplomacy.

  • Ability to work on multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines with minimum supervision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Exercise the authority of the office as delegated by the Assistant Superintendent of Administration and Auxiliary Services.

  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of Facility Services.

  • Supervise the overall effectiveness of the department's programs and ensures all are implemented within federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Work in conjunction with architects, engineers and contractors to ensure the effective completion of projects.

  • Organize the work of the facilities foremen, directors, and staff.

  • Recommend to the Assistant Superintendent of Administration and Auxiliary Services updates to Board policies related to the school services.

  • Attend and participate in Board of Education meetings as directed by the Assistant Superintendent of Administration and Auxiliary Services.

  • Conduct personnel administration duties for appropriate staff, including hiring, evaluating performance appraisals, assigning special duties, monitoring attendance and travel reports, and granting leave.

  • Assist the Assistant Superintendent of Administration and Auxiliary Services in the preparation of budgets for the programs; coordinates with other departments or agencies to ensure maximum services; monitors expenditures of approved budget.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community members.

  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a valid NC driver's license.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, teachers, students, administrators, community leaders, agency representatives, and others.

  • Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.

  • Ability to supervise and coordinate a variety of staff programs and activities.

  • Ability to quickly find resolutions to facility concerns.
