The University Libraries is looking for someone to help us build something different. The Facilities Manager reports to the Director of Operations. The key attributes we are seeking are the abilities to coordinate facilities projects and workorders across multiple locations, proactively manage building access and security, and attention to detail.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Working with various departments on maintenance and security. Initiating work orders, trouble-shooting problems, assisting with space assignments including handling keys, office logistics, purchases furniture, carpeting, painting, etc.

  • Identifying areas for improvement. Making independent decisions regarding use of maintenance budget.

  • Acting as emergency contact for building in case of flood, fire, emergencies. Handling key and swipe card access system for employees, students, visitors and contractors.

  • Serving as a liaison for construction projects across library locations, assisting with design considerations, project budget, space constraints. Working with CDFD project manager to provide guidance to faculty on building systems such as electrical power, air handling, equipment requirements, and specialized materials storage facilities.

  • Assisting with logistics for special events ensuring that work orders are submitted, and personnel are on hand to meet deadlines. May assist with audio-visual needs and room setups for lectures, conferences, musical performances, and other similar events. Ensuring that equipment is operational, and space is user ready.

  • Managing building services including supplies, food services, property, and space inventory.

  • Communicating with building occupants on facilities related issues.

  • Related duties as assigned.

You should demonstrate:

  • Ability to read facilities diagrams including blueprints and space maps

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to relate to all levels of the university including unionized workers, faculty, staff, administrators, and contractors

  • Sensitivity to specialized materials usage and storage while ensuring that research demands are met

  • Ability to balance multiple activities at a time

  • Ability to remain calm while dealing with difficult situations and people

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to anticipate and resolve problems

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience

Carnegie Mellon University Libraries is seeking a motivated individual as Project Coordinator to facilitate the Open Science & Data Collaborations program. The mission of the program is to engage all stakeholders in the research data ecosystem to make research more open, reproducible, reusable, and collaborative across disciplinary boundaries. As a service oriented individual who is passionate about helping the research community and using research data for social good, you will be working in a collaborative environment and interact with a wide range of stakeholders, including librarians, researchers from across disciplines, students, and other units on campus. This is a full-time, regular position reporting daily to campus. Cover letter required; applicants who do not submit a cover letter or resume will not be considered. As an integral part of the program team, your primary responsibilities will include: * Provide assistance to program activities, including annual conferences, Data Collaborations Lab office hours, workshops, and community meetings; * Design and administer in-depth, targeted surveys and interviews to collect community feedback and facilitate data-driven decision making by analyzing survey results; * Contribute to relevant team projects and attend essential project meetings.Projects might include but are not limited to data analysis and developing/teaching workshops; * Maintain program websites and draft communications with library personnel, campus community, and external stakeholders; * Facilitate project documentation in digital forms (e.g. spreadsheets, databases, project management and collaboration tools); * Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
