About this position
The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind is seeking a Facilities Manager.
This is a 12-month, classified position with state benefits, including health insurance, retirement, life insurance, and disability coverage.

Job Duties
Supervises Maintenance
Assists Director of Facilities and Engineering. This includes but is not limited to permit submission and compliance, assistance with capital and maintenance reserve projects as necessary, etc.
Responsible for Physical Plant and Maintenance Operations
Fiscal Management and Internal Communication
Assists department staff as necessary
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate
Possession of a Master Trades license or Virginia Contractors License Class A or B.
Possession of Asbestos Supervisor's Certification or ability to obtain within 9 months.
Experience in commercial construction and maintenance.
Experience supervising multiple staff members with varied backgrounds.
Experience writing specifications for maintenance contract procurement preferred.
Hold a valid Virginia Driver's License.
Working knowledge of construction techniques and State building codes, and associated safety practices
Ability to read plans and specifications, to develop plans based on a specified need and to oversee the implementation of the plans.
Ability to report to work as needed beyond the regular scheduled work hours to manage a 24hr facility.
Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage, direct and train a variety of staff.
Ability to react in emergency situations and assist with resolutions to bring situations to a safe and prompt conclusion in a team environment.
Demonstrated organizational, time management, communications, and documentation skills.
Basic understanding of accounting and finance principles.
Knowledge of lead, asbestos, and radon to assure VSDB is maintained with appropriate levels.
Demonstrated working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of software to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Demonstrated working knowledge of roofing, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
Proficiency level of "Novice" in American Sign Language as measured by the Sign Communication Proficiency Interview or agreement to acquire the specified level within three years.
Physical requirements: Ability to lift 50 pounds, perform repetitive motion to include standing, sitting, reaching, lifting, walking, bending, and climbing, and tolerate various chemicals and weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications:
Possession of a Virginia Construction Contracting Officer (VCCO) Certificate preferred.
