The Ideal candidate for the Facilities Manager will be a strategic thinker, skilled in evaluating performance of teams using metrics to effectively manage a large, diverse workforce. Knowledgeable in the local and national building codes and compliance regulations, in addition to purchasing requirements as it relates to managing and maintaining a wide range of public and private building facilities.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general direction, plans, organizes, manages and directs the repair, maintenance, security, cleaning and servicing of all District and SNWA buildings and facilities, including landscaped areas; researches and prepares a variety of studies and reports regarding the short- and long-term physical plant requirements; and performs related duties as assigned.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Methods, practices and materials used in the building maintenance and construction industry; standard practices, methods and techniques used in industrial engineering, building systems engineering, and commercial building construction and repair; principles, practices and methods used in public works construction contracting and contract administration; basic principles and practices of public agency purchasing; methods and techniques of warehousing and inventory control; administrative principles and methods including goal setting, program development and implementation; principles and practices of budget preparation and administration; methods, practices, tools and equipment common to the building trades; safety regulations, safe work practices and safety equipment related to the work; codes, regulations and guidelines pertaining to the work; computer applications related to the work; principles and practices of effective management and supervision; District human resource policies and labor contract provisions.

Ability to:

Plan, assign, direct and coordinate a variety of functional specialties with overlapping work areas; manage and direct a large facilities maintenance, repair, and cleaning; select, motivate and evaluate staff and provide for their training and development; prepare, administer and monitor a division budget; analyze complex operational and administrative problems, evaluate alternatives and recommend or implement effective courses of action; develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures, work standards and management controls; prepare clear and concise records, reports, correspondence and other written materials; exercise independent judgment and initiative within general policy guidelines; establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of District and department managers, supervisors, employees, contractors, vendors and others encountered in the course of the work.

Training and Experience:

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from a four-year college with a major in architecture, structural, civil or mechanical engineering, business administration or a closely related field; and four years of administrative or supervisory experience in the construction, maintenance and repair of commercial buildings; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

A Nevada driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's Vehicle Insurance Policy.
