JOB SUMMARY:

The Mechanic is responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing of all facilities systems, apparatus and mechanical systems. Incumbent reports to the Maintenance supervisor and works in concert with facility management resources. Maintain production and quality by ensuring operation of machinery and mechanical equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.

  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.

  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.

  • Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.

  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.

  • Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.

  • Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.

  • Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.

  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

  • Works safely at all times and promptly informs management about unsafe conditions existing in the work area

  • Must maintain a consistent and good attendance record in accordance with Company policy

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by Supervisor

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.

  • Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.

  • Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.

  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Education and/or Experience):

  • Hydraulic, mechanical and pneumatic systems experience.

  • Experience with electrical systems, as well as blue print interpretation is also required.

  • 3 years as an industrial mechanic with strong skills in both mechanical and electrical trouble shooting

  • Proven track record in an industrial setting that includes pumps, motors, conveyors, material handling equipment and fork lifts

  • Solid computer skills and experience with preventative maintenance software

  • Knowledge of industrial electrical

  • Technical certifications in welding, pipefitting and general motor repair highly preferred

  • HS graduate with vocational training or GED and related experience

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, climb flights of stairs, work from elevated areas, and wear a respirator when required by the job. Requires full range of body motion including, handling and lifting, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination sufficient to operate hand tools and industrial machinery. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold, wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. Work may be performed indoors and in varied outdoor weather conditions. Work may be performed on elevated surface. Subject to occasional after-hours call-in for special events and/or emergencies.
