POSITION TITLE: Part-Time Facilities Maintenance Technician

DIVISION: Recreation & Facilities

REPORTS TO: Facilities Maintenance Coordinators

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt, Part-time

PAY RANGE: Starting at $15.00/hr (Monday, Thursday, Friday, 3 pm - 10:30 pm Shift)

Purpose of Position:

The purpose of this position is to perform the labor functions to insure that our facilities and associated grounds are developed and maintained to a high standard. Duties include facility maintenance, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair and installation tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Perform various manual work tasks associated with the repair and preventative maintenance of park grounds, recreation facilities, and equipment, including traveling to facility/park locations.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment and tools in operable condition.
  • Utilize computer or mobile devices to monitor work order software and enter new work orders.
  • Remove snow on walkways in front of entrances and apply salt using supplied equipment.
  • Utilize precautionary safety equipment while performing daily facilities maintenance tasks.
  • Monitor parks, recreation facilities, equipment and work environment to ensure safety of employees, contractors and visitors; report safety issues and faulty equipment to the Facility Maintenance Coordinator.
  • Monitor inventory levels of equipment and supplies in assigned area; initiate requests for new or replacement materials; research equipment for potential purchase.
  • Perform general cleaning and basic maintenance functions in and around park facilities; pick up and empty trash.
  • Enforce park rules, regulations and policies.
  • Provide general support for special events.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to utilize various equipment and tools associated with facilities cleaning and maintenance operations, including, but not limited to utility vehicles, trucks, power tools, lifts, skid loaders, shovels, snow blowers and hand tools.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with supervisor, coworkers and members of the public.
  • Knowledge of cleaning and routine facilities maintenance procedures, equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to think critically and problem solve building and maintenance issues in a proactive manner.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to exert heavy, physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, as well as lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials 20-50 pounds regularly, and as much as 75-100 occasionally.
  • Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollens, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, traffic hazards, toxic agents, disease or pathogenic substances.

Qualifications Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Minimum of one (1) year related experience involving facilities maintenance or construction or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.
  • Driving is an essential function of this position and individual must possess and maintain a valid Indiana driver's license and be insurable.
  • Prefer working knowledge of and experience in electrical, HVAC or plumbing trades.
  • Ability to complete continuing education units as necessary.

  • Must pass a background check that encompasses national, state, and local searches, throughout employment.
