Purpose of Position
Incumbent serves as Facilities Maintenance Technician for the Maintenance Department, responsible for maintaining, inspecting, and repairing buildings, equipment, and systems primarily at City Hall, Public Safety Building, Visitor Center, and other city-owned buildings. Monday through Friday 8:00am - 4:30 pm.
Job Requirements
High school diploma or GED, and education and/or experience in electrical, plumbing, general construction, drywall/painting, and facility maintenance.
Working knowledge of the City of Noblesville Civilian Employee Personnel Policy Handbook and the ability to make practical application of requirements. Working knowledge ofstandard department contracts.
Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of OSHA safety policies and procedures.
Ability to perform minor electrical, plumbing, and facility/equipment maintenance repairs, and properly use various hand and power tools, including drills, drill press, air tools and compressor, power saws, sander, grinder, tap/die sets, floor machine, rake, hedge trimmer, pruner, power mower, and snow blower.
Ability to physically perform the essential duties of the position, including exerting sustained physical effort, bending, reaching, crouching/kneeling, standing/walking for long periods, working in cramped/awkward positions for long periods, climbing ladders, pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying objects weighing no more than 50 pounds, close and far vision, depth perception, hearing mechanical sounds/communication, and handling/grasping/fingering objects.
Ability to supervise and direct contractors as required for maintenance contracts and projects.
Working knowledge of and ability to perform relevant arithmetic calculations and maintain accurate records. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs, such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to compose and prepare correspondence, type with accuracy, and properly operate a variety of standard office equipment, including, but not limited to, computer, printer, telephone, fax, copier, calculator and two-way radio.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, specifications, equipment gauges/dials, and perform basic shop mathematics.
Working knowledge of universal health precautions and City's Bloodborne Pathogens Control Plan, and ability to apply such knowledge on the job to protect oneself from infection.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment.
Ability to plan and layout assigned work projects, and work on several tasks at the same time, often under time pressure.
Ability to effectively communicate orally with co-workers, other City personnel, contractors and vendors, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
Ability to occasionally work extended, weekend and/or evening hours and occasionally travel out of town, sometimes overnight.
Ability to serve on 24-hour call and respond swiftly, rationally and decisively to emergencies.
Possession of a valid driver's license, a demonstrated safe driving record, and must remain insurable through the City's liability insurance carrier. (Refer to the Civilian Personnel Policy for additional information.)
Work Environment
Incumbent maintains contact with co-workers, other City personnel, contractors and vendors for the purpose of exchanging information, coordinating operations, and supervising and directing personnel.
Incumbent reports directly to the Facilities Manager.
Incumbent performs a majority of duties in City Hall, public safety buildings and fire stations, occasionally involving exposure to blood borne pathogens and other infectious materials, cleaning chemicals, dust, dirt, and occasional work in high places, such as on roofs and ladders. Incumbent performs duties outdoors and is occasionally exposed to extreme temperatures and inclement weather. Safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid injury to self and others.
Incumbent occasionally works extended, weekend and/or evening hours, and occasionally travels out of town, but not overnight. Incumbent serves on 24-hour call for emergencies.
This position is identified as having occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.
