We have a wonderful opportunity for a Facilities Maintenance Tech within our Facilities and Engineering Department at Bloodworks NW! The incumbent will be responsible for providing specialized skills and expertise with repair, maintenance, and construction duties in our multiple regulated 24/7 healthcare and laboratory facilities. Operate efficiently and with minimal supervision. Assist other maintenance staff, engineers, and Facilities staff throughout the Puget Sound region.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

  • Use critical thinking, problem-solving, and appropriate independent judgment to provide skilled repair.

  • Guide Maintenance staff by structuring assignments according to department priorities, and skills of staff, and through the use of the automated work order system.

  • Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems and a variety of plumbing fixtures such as faucets, sinks, toilets, and water heaters.

  • Paint facilities and equipment; prepare surfaces for painting; apply paint to building interiors, fixtures, equipment, or exterior; strip, paint, or stain cabinets, doors, and woodwork.

  • Install, modify, and repair modular office furniture; move office furniture, equipment, and supplies from one location to another.

  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks including roof systems, vehicle checks, filter changes, and building rounds.

  • Troubleshoot repairs and alterations of doors and fixtures within our building facilities to ensure safe and efficient operation.

  • Requisition supplies and equipment needed for maintenance and repairs.

  • Communicate with the vendor to schedule repairs, greet, and assist while repairs are in process.

  • Document maintenance, repairs, and completed work for inclusion in the equipment database.

  • Interpret blueprints and schematics.

  • Operates a variety of hand and power tools; works with a variety of chemicals including cleaning products, solvents, glues, etc.

  • Organize maintenance areas, electrical and service closets, and inventory tools and equipment.

  • Follow all safety procedures and other regulatory requirements.

  • Perform duties of a Facilities Maintenance Technician as needed.

  • Rotate on-call responsibility and after-hours response. On-call responsibility requires the ability to be available on short notice, twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week.

  • Ensure full compliance with the standards outlined in the BWNW Vehicle Safety and Training Policy and Liftgate safety when operating or riding in company vehicles.

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum four years of relevant building trade, maintenance, or construction experience in one or more of the following areas:

Electrical, Painting/Drywall, Flooring Installation, Glazing, Pipe fitting/Plumbing, Carpentry/Cabinetry, Furniture, Assembly, Mechanics, HVAC/R, Equipment Repair

  • High School graduate or G.E.D. plus additional vocational course work preferred.

SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS include, but are not limited to:

  • Other required physical activities include continuous standing, walking, and kneeling. Required physical activities used less frequently include reaching, climbing, handling, and repetitive motions of hands/wrists/feet (used frequently); stooping, sitting, bending, and crawling (used occasionally).

  • Required licenses, certifications, and coursework depend on area of expertise.

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • ability to climb ladders and work at heights.

  • The ability to lift, pull, push, and carry up to 75 lbs.

  • To obtain access to some client facilities, the incumbent may be required to apply for and obtain clearance to access the client property. This clearance process may require the incumbent to undergo additional levels of screening beyond Bloodworks' standard pre-employment screening

  • Possess and maintain a driver's license for at least 3 years.

  • Valid State Driver's License with an acceptable driving record in the State of residence.

  • Ability to operate a wide variety of vehicles.

  • Use of a company or personal vehicle for company business requires an acceptable driver's record as defined by the vehicle policy.

  • Must meet MVR standards required by the Bloodworks Vehicle Safety and Training Policy.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The position requires frequent local travel, close work, constant standing, and heavy lifting; rotating on-call status, occasional overtime, and computer use (occasionally).

  • Ability to work scheduled on-call, holidays, and weekends.

  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather.

  • As this is an essential position with direct responsibility to donors and/or patients, the incumbent should be prepared to work extended and/or consecutive shifts and/or possibly at a different location during periods of inclement weather or other emergencies.

  • This position has direct exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
